I'm sure Emily Bates will get BOG in a winning team, but realistically Parker was her equal, just didn't have the quality of players around her to take advantage.

After a slow start Brisbane has piled on the goals for a second straight week to record a 47-point victory at Manuka Oval on Sunday afternoon.

After kicking 11 goals in a 49-point win over Fremantle seven days earlier, the Lions went goalless in the opening term before running riot to beat the GIANTS 10.7 (67) to 3.2 (20). The GIANTS kicked the first two goals and held an 11-point lead at quarter-time with ferocious intensity, but the Lions flipped the game on its head with four unanswered goals in the second term. The visitors never looked back.

Brisbane's intensity first matched, then exceeded, the GIANTS, as they began to dominate contested ball and racked up a whopping 24 tackles inside 50 to show their desire. Captain Bre Koenen took the responsibility of handling GIANTS sharpshooter Cora Staunton, restricting her to five goalless disposals. Alyce Parker was fantastic on a losing team, racking up 27 tireless disposals and one goal.

Both teams have local derbies next weekend, with Brisbane out to start its season with three straight wins when it takes on Gold Coast at the Gabba, while the GIANTS face Sydney at the SCG.

Inaugural GIANT and forward Nicola Barr could return for her first game of the season for this Saturday’s inaugural AFLW Sydney Derby at the SCG. The 26-year-old has returned to full team training following an ongoing knee injury and returned to the field, playing in the GIANTS’ match simulation against the Lions on the weekend.

Top draft pick Zarlie Goldsworthy will also return to full team training this week after being sidelined with a shoulder injury picked up in the GIANTS' final practice match ahead of the season. If she clears a fitness test, the 17-year-old could put her hand up for a Derby debut this weekend.

Meanwhile, three players join the GIANTS’ long-term injury list.

After a strong start to season seven, scans following last Sunday's match have confirmed a season-ending injury for midfielder Tait Mackrill. The 23-year-old has a stress fracture in her left foot, with a recovery period of four-to-six months.

Off the back of a career-best performance in round two, the remainder of midfielder Chloe Dalton’s season looks in doubt, with scans confirming a significant hamstring strain for the 29-year-old which will see her sidelined for eight weeks. The incident happened late in the loss to the Lions on Sunday.

Yesterday the GIANTS confirmed an ACL injury for Pepa Randall, with the important defender set to undergo a knee reconstruction in the coming weeks.

AFTER a week of bad injury news for Greater Western Sydney, there's finally some joy, with inaugural Giant Nicola Barr set to play her first game of season seven after overcoming a knee injury. The Giants will also unveil prized top draft pick Zarlie Goldsworthy as it takes on Sydney in the League’s first AFLW derby on Saturday.

GIANTS Story Told in Jumper Design

The GIANTS will wear the club's AFLW Indigenous jumper against the Swans in the Sydney Derby this weekend.

The GIANTS will wear the club's AFLW Indigenous jumper when they take on the Swans in the first-ever AFLW Sydney Derby at the SCG this weekend.

The jumper was designed by Leeanne Hunter, who previously designed the Sir Doug Nicholls Round jumper for the GIANTS’ AFL team in 2019. With input from the AFLW leadership group, Hunter’s design tells the ‘GIANTS’ Story’ and will also be worn by the team against West Coast at GIANTS Stadium in round 4.

The design includes a focus on:

- Family and communities: representing the inclusiveness of the club; bringing together players, staff, members and fans as well as people coming together from diverse backgrounds and many different locations, united as GIANTS.

- The path of the GIANTS’ team including the journey of past and present players. Representing players coming together from across Australia to Western Sydney to embark on a journey to premiership glory.

Inaugural GIANT and past player Codie Briggs assisted with totems to be included in the ‘journey’ and to help illustrate the team’s culture. Delma Gisu's journey to become the first Torres Straight Islander to play for the GIANTS is also represented.

The team’s three core values of Tough, Selflessness and Support are also represented.

Hunter spoke about the creation of the design:

“The U shape in the centre circle represents an aerial view of a person sitting, with digging stick, representing a woman. The U shape is placed in the centre to depict the support networks who work behind the scenes to organise the games & training for teams,” she said.

“The Inner circle has Black footprints, depicting the reserves team members.

“The third and fourth inner circles have the female image for the 16 players on the field, all aiming for their goal and inter-connected. The black and white colours are representative of women from all cultural backgrounds.

“The pathway created by the AFL for female players to play at a professional level is also represented. The Emu footprint is the totem of Codie Briggs and her family heritage from the Murray River in Victoria. The Emu print is depicted walking together and role modelling as other female players seek to play in the AFLW.

“The Wave is representative of the Saltwater people from the Torres Strait and any other mainland Aboriginal people who are from Saltwater country, it doubles as the wave of women in the past who missed the opportunity to play AFLW at a professional level.

“On the back of the jumper, the two hands are symbolic of the community coming together to celebrate the games.”

Parker and Eva leading the way. But Maddie Brazendale was outstanding, with her speed adding a great new dimension to our counter-attack. Barr, Evans, Garnett, Pease were also very good. Goldsworthy and Gaffney - the debutants - showed a lot as well, to showcase that they'll both be excellent competitors for a long time for us.

I watched the 2nd half and they definitely played much tougher than last week.
They took out their frustrations on the Swans. Strong tackles.
Zreika didn't get many touches but I noted she always hit a target.
And I agree the umpires missed a lot - especially the high contact hits on our players.
