I wasn't able to watch for some reason (video didn't work) ... so what happened?
Looks like we won every stat except the FKs (and squared the CPs).

Geelong players literally allowed to run with the ball, get tackled, hold onto it for 3 seconds, then get rid of it. MULTIPLE occasions.

Rushed through a behind from 11 metres out.

Allowed to chip a pass to a teammate in the forward 50 from 3 metres off her line after looking like going back for the shot.

You know, the usual Geelong bullshit.

The goal kicked by Scheer in the second quarter when she was clear of our nearest defender by some twenty metres…a bewildering brain fade and it was shoddy defensive efforts like this one that made the difference to the result more than dodgy umpring.

Also, with a couple of notable exceptions (like Blackburn and Wilcox), we are not a quick side and our defence is a bit lumbering. We do struggle with nimble forwards. Our contested and intercept marking is our one wood down there, but ground ball tends to expose us a bit.

What about that Geelong player doing a 360 but that’s ok play on

Just horrendous today, no other words to describe it. A match we needed to win and should've won on paper.

The margin ended up flattering us frankly, Geelong should’ve put the game to bed with 14 shots to 7 to 3QT. Not sure many teams have lost after winning the first possession stat 36-18 but we did today.

Work rate across the board was way down for far too long with players just not attacking the play and Geelong rightly pounced. One thing that we desperately need to improve is game awareness, so many times we are getting chased down holding the ball, or have a shot that gets smothered that was only ever going to get smothered.

Our defensive structure which has been our most solid line this year really struggled today, we did not take a contested mark in our defensive half and losing the inside 50 efficiency stat 40% to 65% while dropping 7 marks to 3 was damning,

Once again giving away lazy free kicks costs us dearly but on top of that, we leave Scheer completely on her own 20m out directly in front.

It’s become very clear that our 4-0 start was largely down to who we played and not how we played. Our finals chances have dropped significantly with us now needing to win 2 of our last 4 after the rise of Richmond and Gold Coat of late.

Fitzgerald and Edmonds were both outstanding, with Edmonds breaking the record for most hitouts to advantage in an AFLW match, a record which she already had. Blackburn worked her way into the game nicely and I thought Pritchard and Wilcox did some nice things but far too many travellers today until it was too late.

Now as always…

Looked like Geelong wanted to win more to me and players weren't desperate enough, which is unlike this Dogs side. Need to make amends next week and come out and play with some passion. Speaking of lack of passion, put people in the box who want to be there and sound interested in what they are watching. Ben Brown, you've got be kidding.

I love, love LOVE Katie Lynch, but if Bourkey hasn't told her to stop kicking across the 50m arc then questions need to be asked.

She's not nearly a good enough kick to hit those, and the amount of times we turn it over doing so when every goal is so vital just kills us. If she marks on the 50m flanks it just HAS to be a long kick down the line.

Here is her kick map from the match (kicking to the right)...

And here are where those kicks ended up at the end of their respective chains. Just 4 chains ended up in the forward half and 1 in the forward 50 which went out of bounds.

KL3.png

It's really the only part of her game she needs to tidy up, her intercepting is easily top 5 in the competition and you could make a case for the best.

I feel that today we were just far too slow in moving the ball from our defensive half, something which we are usually very good at.

Cracking day weather wise. Was a decent crowd. Geelong fans seemed to outnumber us at the ground.

Some of our interchanges were mind boggling. I know the shorter quarters and not as many goals being kicked makes it difficult. But on atleast 3 occasions we had 2 players running off the ground when Geelong had possession.

It cost us a goal in the third quarter and probably the match.

Brown seems to have lost her confidence. She was tracking beautifully the first few games. Going to ground or getting moved off the ball far to easily now.

We rely heavily on Blackburn, Fitzgerald and Lamb..If one is quiet we are in strife. It was Lamb today.

Not sure that the brother of an AFLW player should be umpiring his sisters AFLW game. Only emg umpire this week, but too bad if he has to go on.

I notice Millie Brown has been dropped after one game. They looked a mile off the pace last week.

I noticed in the practice match versus GWS that Brown was running through treacle. Not great, when we are already challenged for pace in the backline.

Pretty lucky to be 7 points down, just like last week Melbourne looks too strong and too fast for us. Fair play to our defenders though, they worked hard to keep them to that.
