Game Changers unveil 2022 AFLW Pride Guernsey

The Carlton Football Club today proudly launches its 2022 Pride guernsey, which will be worn by the Game Changers in Sunday’s Round 3 Pride Game against the Western Bulldogs at Whitten Oval.
The game will mark the fifth consecutive season the two teams have met in a celebration of pride, which is proudly held to recognise and support the LBGTQIA+ community by celebrating inclusiveness, gender diversity, and welcoming all people, no matter their sexual orientation.
The Blues’ 2022 Pride guernsey, designed by the Club’s Carlton Pride supporter group, represents themes of LGBTQIA+ and AFLW stories relating to growth, journey, struggle, and strength.

Carlton CEO Brian Cook said the Club was looking forward to once again participating in the annual Pride Game.

“This is a concept that supports our values as a club and reflects our overall commitment to inclusion and belonging,” Cook said.

“We’re incredibly proud of the ongoing work and engagement we have with our Carlton Pride group and know the important role this game plays in being able to contribute to, and influence, positive societal progress.”

There is a key focus on the transgender community for 2022, with Carlton Pride Treasurer Rochelle Pattison highlighting the importance of this recognition in the guernsey design.

“The Carlton Pride group felt that acceptance of this community, inclusive of people of colour, is continuing to grow. There is progress to be made in our society that educates people on transgender, gender diverse and non-binary individuals and results in acceptance of their community,” Pattison said.

Carlton Pride Secretary David Gould added “the 2022 Carlton Pride Guernsey takes on a new visual from its previous years to reflect growth and the colours represented in this guernsey show the full spectrum of the progress flag.

“We have been very appreciative of the Carlton Football Club’s willingness to become a partner in championing inclusivity.”

There will be a limited number of Pride guernseys for sale at The Carlton Shop, and following the match, the players’ guernseys will also be auctioned off via the Club’s online auction site, with proceeds split between Carlton Pride and LGBTQIA+ charity Minus18.

Minus18 are the champions for LGBTQIA+ youth in Australia. The charity creates social change and mobilises community support through their identity-affirming, youth-driven events, workshops, education resources and campaigns across the nation.

Carlton Pride has been the official LGBTQIA+ supporter group of the Blues since 2017. The group exists to provide a safe and inclusive environment for members of the LGBTQIA+ community and welcomes all LGBTQIA+ people and allies.

Surely Brisbane plays the Bulldogs first

Edit: would have thought the AFLW had plans by now on what they planned on doing with the Lions Bulldogs game instead of moving on to round 3

Charlie Rowbottom a Round 2 NAB AFLW Rising Star nominee

Charlie Rowbottom has claimed a Round 2 NAB AFL Women’s Rising Star nomination following a standout performance in the win over West Coast on the weekend.

Selected as the number one pick in the 2021 NAB AFLW Draft, Rowbottom led the way with a game-high 12 tackles, while her attack on the ball saw her finish with 17 disposals (12 contested) in the victory.

In addition, Rowbottom’s tenacity around the contest saw her collect a game-high six inside 50’s, game-high five clearances and a game-high two goal assists in just her second game of elite women’s football.

Since joining the club, Rowbottom has impressed with her ball-winning ability and physicality in the contest.

She made her AFLW debut in Round 1 in Mackay where she had 11 disposals and six tackles, but lifted to another level in her second game to earn the Rising Star recognition.

Rowbottom’s junior club is the East Malvern Knights Football Club, while she also came through the Oakleigh Chargers development program.

The NAB AFLW Rising Star winner will be announced at the 2022 W Awards.

All AFLW players 21 years and under as at 1 January 2021 and who have not previously been nominated as a rising star qualify for consideration for the award.

Two players will be nominated each week of the NAB AFL Women’s Competition. Melbourne’s Alyssa Bannan is the other Round 2 nominee.

Gonna be tough for the Tiger’s wvwn if we had Wakefield.
Freo flying under the radar this year, fell in a heap last year but they’ve won 21 outta 27 games.
Had the wind but really cranked it in the second quarter.

…not convinced about the Dees yet.

The Ticketek/Ticketmaster pages for each game tend to give potential hints. At the moment I'd say it's looking likely that the QClash will be rescheduled in order to fit in Bris v WB.

Sorry, I must've missed a notification to this post. If it was to be rescheduled for the purposes I mentioned, it would have been moved to Sunday to allow a four-day turnaround from Wednesday.

But tickets are on sale now for all seven matches, including GC v BL on Saturday for which the Ticketek page is back up, suggesting a different game down the track will have to be rescheduled to accommodate the Lions-Dogs catch-up (unless the four day break minimum is changed to three, but I can't see how that'd fly).

Richmond meeting Fremantle for the first time, meaning the Dockers will become just the 2nd team (after GWS) to have played all 13 other teams.

8 clubs will have finally joined that list by the end of the season--somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I think Adel-Rich, Melb-Geel, and WCE-Carl are to remain as the elusive match-ups (two of which have been scheduled previously but never came to fruition).

Kangaroos launch inaugural Pride guernsey

unnamed.jpg

The North Melbourne Kangaroos have proudly launched their inaugural Pride guernsey ahead of AFLW Pride Round this weekend.

The Pride guernsey design represents the club’s past and it’s diverse and progressive future. It features the traditional bounding Roo, synonymous with the club’s on-field success in the 1990s, in the centre and vertical rainbow stripes on the front and back of the guernsey.

“Today is a very proud moment for our club,” North Melbourne Chief Executive Ben Amarfio said.

“The Pride guernsey is a representation of our past, our present and our future.

“We are proud of our club culture, one based around respect, dignity and inclusion and this guernsey is a great representation of our North Melbourne community.

“This weekend, Pride Round provides an opportunity for us to acknowledge and celebrate the diverse communities that make up our club and gives up a very public platform to create a match day where everyone feels a genuine sense of belonging.”

On Tuesday, AFLW players Daisy Bateman, Daria Bannister and Ellie Gavalas helped to officially launch the club’s Pride guernsey ahead of their round 3 clash with the GWS Giants at Arden Street Oval this Sunday.

“Pride round is super important to me and my teammates,” Bateman said.

“We are fortunate to have a platform like playing a game down at Arden Street to represent the pride community.

“If we can play a small part like pulling on the jumper and making some people feel really special then there’s something really special in that.”

The club’s Pride guernsey can be purchased online at the Roo Shop.
