Deckchairs being reshuffled, but Chloe Dalton and Alyce Parker missing is a huge concern for us.

Not a particularly good season from us, all over after tonight at Geelong.

The GIANTS will enter their final game of the season without star midfielders Alyce Parker and Chloe Dalton. Parker was forced out of Friday night’s match after suffering a concussion in the GIANTS’ round nine nail-biter against the Tigers, while Chloe Dalton was dealt a one-week suspension from the same match.

Katherine Smith and Casidhe Simmons have both been added to the side to take on the Cats. Smith has played eight of the GIANTS’ games so far this season, including kicking the match-winning goal against the Saints in the rescheduled round five match at Blacktown International Sportspark.

Simmons was one of three club debutants in round four, when the GIANTS recorded their best win of the season, defeating the Bulldogs by 21 points. The former heptathlete will be expected to add some speed into the GIANTS’ forward line for Friday’s match.

The match between the Cats and the GIANTS will be broadcast live from 6pm on 7Mate in NSW and the ACT, Foxtel, Kayo and the Official AFLW App.

Both sides suffered disappointing losses last week, Geelong because it didn't make the most of the opportunities it created and the Giants due to a slow start. Geelong struggled around the contest against the Saints, and despite coming up against a Giants side that will be without Alyce Parker, it doesn't get any easier this week. Rebecca Beeson is finding some impressive form after an ankle injury saw her miss five games this year, while captain Alicia Eva and first year player Ally Dallaway have shown a real strength at stoppages this year.

It will be important for the Giants to find a spread of goalkickers, rather than rely heavily on Cora Staunton for the bulk of their score. Staunton almost pulled them over the line with three final-quarter goals against the Tigers on Saturday, but if they can force Geelong's defence to play accountable footy across a number of dangerous forwards, they will be in a good position to finish the 2022 season on a high.

Good luck ladies, bring it home with a bang against the Cats.

After being badly behind in the first quarter, and down by 13 points a couple of times, our ladies fought back (without Parker, Dalton & Beeson) to score a good win in the end.

Duckie a star with 4 goals - temporarily co-leader in the season's goalkicking tally.

GREATER Western Sydney has ended its season on a high with an 18-point win over Geelong in a cracking contest on a Friday. The Giants were outplayed in the first half, but stayed in touch with the Cats before storming home to seal the 8.5 (53) to 5.5 (35) result.

Cora Staunton was enormous up forward with four goals, while Jess Doyle kicked two in a pulsating third quarter. Alicia Eva and Nicola Barr were prolific through the midfield, while Erin McKinnon racked up 47 hitouts - the most in NAB AFLW history.

I know this sounds terrible but this entire competition from the semi professional players to the regional drafting to the standard of play is all a bit Mickey Mouse.

The idea of AFLW is brilliant and absolutely essential however the way it’s been conceptualised and grown prematurely has made it a joke competition which is frankly not unlike watching a bad comedian a cringeworthy thing to see.

This competition needs to be rationalised, a lot more money needs to be spent on development and a lot more money needs to be found to allow players to be fully professional.

It is too much to ask to have semi professional and poorly paid and developed people to produce a watchable product.

That teams can’t effectively draft from the entire pool makes the entire sport a Clayton’s attempt and is unfair to all participants and fans.

So with that in mind who cares about the coach or anything else.
