GREATER Western Sydney has snatched victory away from a winless St Kilda, with Katherine Smith converting a 50m penalty on the siren to win by two points at Blacktown Oval on Wednesday evening.

The Saints were four points up with only 15 seconds on the clock, when a free kick and subsequent 50m penalty was paid, bringing Smith right to the goal square, and the Saints right into heartbreak.

Cora Staunton was at her best, booting three goals, while Nicola Barr continued her run of good form.

St Kilda’s Tilly Lucas-Rodd continued her impressive year in the midfield, while Nicola Xenos kicked two goals.

Oh. As in competitive games? They'd need some seating, but surely that would only be small? I guess we'll see what transpires.
They had said it was hard to get fields to play the games, and with South coming in next year it’ll be worse, which is why they are trying to get funding to upgrade the ground.
Think it was Matthews saying it in a interview last week in the SEN radio/podcast.

Star midfielder Rebecca Beeson will play her first game since round two as she makes her return to the GIANTS side for the AFLW clash against Carlton at Manuka Oval on Sunday night. Beeson is one of three changes for the crucial clash with ruck Erin McKinnon and young forward Brodee Mowbray returning to the side.

Beeson – the 2019 Gabrielle Trainor Medal winner – hasn’t played since injuring her ankle in round two against the Fremantle Dockers.
McKinnon returns to the line-up after missing the past two matches through the AFL’s concussion protocols.

Mowbray will play her second game of the season after making her debut against the Western Bulldogs at Henson Park in round four. The 19-year-old is a tough and speedy midfielder and forward who has a reputation for being a strong tackler and being able to hunt the ball well around the contest

Young ruck Ally Morphett has been rested for the GIANTS’ third game in eight days, while fellow youngster Jess Doyle and defender Jasmine Grierson have been omitted.

The round eight clash will see the GIANTS continue the competition-wide celebrations for Indigenous Round, acknowledging the significant contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Australian Football and the broader community. The GIANTS will once again run out in their specially-designed Indigenous jumper, created by Wiradjuri woman Leeanne Hunter.

The GIANTS’ AFLW side return to the nation’s capital on Sunday night to take on the Blues with the match to start at 7:10pm. Tickets are available via Ticketek.

CARLTON has recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this season, blowing Greater Western Sydney away in the second half to score an 18-point win at Manuka Oval.

The Blues led by just two points at half-time but a dominant third quarter from star forward Darcy Vescio, in which they kicked their milestone 50th career AFLW goal, set the platform for the 7.9 (51) to 5.3 (33) victory.

Nicola Barr (17 disposals) and Alicia Eva (17 disposals, six clearances) were among the Giants' best, and Cora Staunton kicked two goals from limited opportunities. (Comment: They missed mentioned Parker, who had 19 disposals and 3 clearances.)

Former Carlton veteran Katie Loynes marked her first outing against her old side with a second-quarter goal that lifted the Giants' collective spirits. Loynes, 35, perfectly roved a stoppage at the top of the GWS attacking 50, threw the ball on the boot and watched it sail through the big sticks. The moment wasn't lost on her teammates, who swamped her in celebration.

Tarni Evans will play her first game for season 2022 when the GIANTS run out at GIANTS Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Evans debuted last season for the GIANTS and played seven of the nine regular-season matches. However, a foot injury in the early weeks of pre-season has sidelined the 20-year-old to date. Standing at 180cm, Evans is a versatile utility who has the ability to make an impact all across the ground.

Also returning to the side after an injury-riddled first year in the orange and charcoal is Chloe Dalton. Dalton sustained a calf strain in the round six loss to the Crows, forcing her to miss the past two matches.

Forwards Rebecca Privitelli and Jess Doyle have also been recalled, with Katherine Smith, Lou Stephenson, Erin Lorenzini and Brodee Mowbray omitted.

Saturday’s clash against the Tigers at GIANTS Stadium is just the second time the women’s side have played at the Sydney Olympic Park venue.

Tickets for Saturday’s match are available through Ticketmaster.

Seems to be a recurring theme this year, very poor first term and getting way behind, middling for most of the game, then put effort in the last quarter and look half decent. But we should have been in the fight to win that, not to make the scorecard look OK.

Unfortunately we lost Alyce Parker to concussion, which really hampered us. Another tale of the year - an early injury to a major player.

RICHMOND is back on the winners list, surviving a stirring Greater Western Sydney comeback led by Cora Staunton to win by eight points at GIANTS Stadium on Saturday evening. Three final-term goals from Staunton gave the Giants a sniff of victory, but Richmond’s early hard work had given them an unassailable buffer in the a 7.4 (46) to 6.2 (38) clash.

I did not watch this match no Ally for last 2 weeks
Yeah, not sure what's happened there. She looked pretty good in those early games, then they said they'd give her a rest (fair enough for a young kid in a tough role), but would have thought just one week would have been sufficient. Maybe they felt they could only afford to carry one ruck?
