Greetings, Giantlings! Your lot are giving away free snags that would cost an arm and a leg at Adelaide Oval 🤣Love Henson Park as a venue, was here a few weeks back for the derby as well. Thanks for the hospitality šŸ‘ IMG_3369.jpeg

A comprehensive defeat for our AFLW team against Port at Henson Park. Final score was 24(3.6)- 81(11.15), with Gemma Houghton becoming the first player in AFLW history to score 100 goals with that kick coming after the siren! Our goals to Evans, Garnett and Davies. We are currently 16th in the ladder, and will most likely finish up 17th if Richmond as expected beat last placed Gold Coast later today. Not sure what we do to contend for the finals in coming years. Highlight of our season were the back to back wins against the Bulldogs in Manuka and the exciting win against Sydney Swans at Henson.

Sadly the organization gives zero fs about our womens program by continuing to re-sign a substandard head coach, and also how last year we appointed our media person in Alison Zell as general manager AFLW and football operations even tho her whole background has only even been in the media.

Write-up for the final game of the season. A promising start, but fade-out after the first quarter.

Port Adelaide forward Gemma Houghton has booted a goal after the siren to become the first AFLW player to reach a century of career majors as the Power blew away the GIANTS with a 10-goal blitz in a 57-point victory. The Power took time to fire even with their faint finals hopes on the line until Houghton sparked the side to life with two goals during a devastating second term that set up the 11.15 (81) to 3.6 (24) win over the GIANTS on Saturday afternoon.

Heavy rainfall leading into the game ensured a contested clash that suited the Power more than the GIANTS' free-flowing style as the visitors overcame a slow start to pile on 10 consecutive goals after the first change. The GIANTS made a promising start with the only two goals of the opening term but were unable to stay with the Power as the game wore on and their own injuries piled up.

Madison Brazendale helped get the GIANTS going with 15 disposals before being ruled out with a corked quad, while Bec Beeson spent a long period on the sidelines before passing a head injury assessment. But the worst was still to come as Eilish O'Dowd slumped to the turf in a tackle during the final with concerns that the lively ruck injured a knee. AFLW trailblazer Aliesha Newman signed off with 11 disposals but could not add to her goalkicking highlights, while Kaitlyn Srhoj ended a promising season to be among the GIANTS best with 18 touches.

The defeat locks the GIANTS into a bottom-four finish with only two wins as their reliance on swift ball movement was again exposed against a Power side that is among the best in the contest.

It's season over for both sides. The GIANTS end a tough season on two victories.

GIANTS 2.2 2.3 2.4 3.6 (24)

PORT ADELAIDE 0.2 6.4 9.10 11.15 (81)

GOALS - GIANTS Garnett, Evans, Davies

BEST - GIANTS: McCormick, Srhoj, Goldsworthy, Pease

INJURIES - GIANTS: Brazendale (quad)

Martin winning Rising Star over Howley....., We have to be killing ourself that we took Howley over Zippy Fish, whos game is better suited for AFLW

Sure we should have taken Zippy but we got too spooked by the go home factor. But personally Howley was a tad robbed and should have won the rising star tonight, and still confident that she will turn into a very good player.

Congrats to Zarlie Goldsworthy. She joins Beeson and Alyce Parker as the only multiple club best and fairest winners for our club. And Zarlie is only 20 years old and is a strong chance to overhaul Parker’s 4 Trainor medals in her career

Our total 2025 AFLW crowds from our 6 home games was 9,745. Our overall average home crowd attendance was 1,624 with the respective home ground breakdowns below:
  • Manuka 2 games = total attendances of 4,393 (average 2,197)
  • Henson Park 4 games = total attendances of 5,352 (average 1,338)

Henson Park 4 games = total attendances of 5,352 (average 1,338)
By comparison, our six post-COVID games at BISP averaged 818 people and it's not like people are coming to see our more exciting brand of football now.

Fair to say the swans have more accountability than we do with our head coach

He quit, so nope.

"Sydney Swans AFLW coach Scott Gowans has called time on his role at the club, after four seasons at the helm.

After being instrumental in building Sydney’s inaugural AFLW team, Gowans has made the difficult decision to part ways with the Swans and seek other opportunities."

Apparently he's had a few health scares which might be playing a part in it.

Might be true but personally not buying that.
