We are going to be against a strong wind in the last quarter, but at the end of the 3rd quarter we are leading Sydney 41 to 35! Probably will lose, but great effort by our ladies to be competitive against a strong Sydney side. The all time Giants AFLW record against our derby rivals is 1 win (our very first game against them!) to 2 losses.

a GREAT incredible win by our AFLW team who held off Sydney to win 49 (7.7) to 42 (6.6).

There was a record Henson Park crowd of 7,171 at the match, albeit it being a Swans home match, with the previous record attendance of 5,722 being smashed! This was only the 2nd time this year an AFLW match had an attendance that exceeded 6,000 - the Collingwood vs Carlton season opener drew a crowd of 8,042.

Garnett scored a goal in her 50th game during the 3rd quarter to give us the lead, with Brodee Mowbray our leading goal scorer with 2 goals. Well done to our ladies! Our first back to back wins in almost 5 years!

And another one bites the dust ...

Grace Kos will miss the remainder of the 2025 NAB AFLW season following a tendon injury to her elbow.

Scans confirmed the extent of the damage on Tuesday and Kos has consulted with club doctors about the rehabilitation process. The Irish recruit suffered the season-ending injury in a tackle, after offloading the ball to Taylah Levy who went on to score and put the GIANTS back within touching distance of the Swans in the third quarter.

Forward Georgia Garnett also sustained a minor injury to her elbow, coming from the field in the second quarter, but returned to play out her 50th match. Garnett will be a test to take on the Eagles this week depending on her movement through training.

Fellow attacker Alicia Eva also shapes for a potential return to the side and will be a test to play, following four weeks of rehabilitation on her right hamstring. The former captain has tracked ahead of schedule, after sustaining a minor hamstring injury in the round three loss to the Crows.

Alyce Parker will consult with her surgeon next week, to provide an update on the rehabilitation of her foot injury.
Injury List – September 23

Georgia Garnett Elbow Test
Alyce Parker Foot 7 weeks

Deal was reportedly done before the season started, in which case the club has just waited for a couple wins to officially announce it.

Well, that would have been interesting if we'd had a winless season!
A scenario which may actually unfold with Richmond, who are 0-6 and also recently extended their coach to the end of 2026.

The AFLW team seems to like him too as demonstrated after our first win? He’s only our 2nd AFLW coach after Alan McConnell
Yeah, he passes the 'good bloke' test, but those early losses to the Suns and Bombers are even more appalling in hindsight. Hopefully for him and the team he's unlocked something competitive for the rest of the season.

There's definitely before of an indication of a game style now... Let's see if it sticks.

Round 7 AFLW 2025 - 28 September

Fleur Davies will play her first match at AFLW level this season, coming into the side as a replacement for Irish recruit Grace Kos.

The 185-cm ruck will add to the 15 games under her belt after performing at a high level in AFLW scrimmage. Davies was a strong improver through the GIANTS pre-season, delivering a personal best time trial result and working on both her ruck and forward craft. The Southport junior will look to pile onto the GIANTS’ aerial advantage and increase the side’s competitive efforts around centre clearances - a team stat that the GIANTS have struggled to win the ball in through the front half of the season.

Davies can be an important asset in creating hit outs to advantage and deliver the ball quickly to the attacking 50. She also comes into the centre contest with Eagles’ ruck Liz McGrath still out following an ankle injury sustained in round five. Davies’ inclusion is the only change to the side which has delivered back-to-back victories over rounds five and six.

The GIANTS will face the Eagles at 5:05pm AEST (3:05pm AWST) this Sunday,September 28 at Mineral Resources Park, Perth on Whadjuk Country.

Round 8 AFLW 2025 - 4 October

Aliesha Newman comes into Cam Bernasconi’s side for her first game of the season alongside Alicia Eva, who returns for her first game since round three. Newman has been a consistent performer at scrimmage level over the last month and adds plenty of experience with 63 games under her belt. The speedy utility last featured for the GIANTS in round ten of 2024 and has continued to play a critical role off field as one of the squad’s four inaugural AFLW players, in helping the development of younger players. The 30-year-old can be deployed both in the midfield and forward line and adds plenty of strength to the team, particularly with her agility and speed.

She enters the team alongside Alicia Eva, fully recovered from the strain she suffered in her right hamstring in the round three loss to the Crows. Eva has been assisting in the coaches' box, applying her critical skills to opposition review while working towards her return.

Indi Linde and Eleanor Brown will make way for the return of the two senior players.

The GIANTS will face the Saints at 1:05pm on Saturday, October 4 at Henson Park Marrickville for the first AFLW Welcome Game.
