There is talk that she could go round 1 and bassed off her VFLW season you can see why. Midfield depth is hard to come by at the moment, I hope you're right of course but I've got a feeling that she might already be gone by our first pick.

I have seen Zali Friswell up close and believe she would be a good choice.

She uses the ball very well and has good strength.

She didn't really get an opportunity for Vic Metro in the midfield.

If the draft watchers based it on the National Championships or games at Essendon in the VFLW, then they were seeing her played out of position, and not seeing her at her best.

Very happy with Amanda Link slipping to 22 I was sure she'd go in the first 10. Still a bit disappointed that we didn't get Nanscawen but overall I think we did very well and I've listed their 2021 season averages below...

It will be interesting. Pritchard may end up the preferred back up due to offering more around the ball. She would essentially be an extra midfielder.

Maybe I'm being overly suspicious but I have a hard time getting invested in the girls competition when clubs can pay players outside of their playing contacts.

It seems like this draft has opened up a bit of a can of worms with what Gold coast did. What's to stop GWS or Adelaide 'convincing' the top 5 prospects to nominate in their state instead of their home state and picking them up with a bunch of fourth round picks?

I understand the need for state based drafts but there do seem to be significant flaws.

Yeah it's definitely a good draft on paper.
I think a specialist winger will help the midfield out as much as anything. I don't think we have really had one since Conti left.

As Weltschmerz pointed out, Campbell sited Melbourne being easier to get to from the Eastern suburbs as the reason for her decision.
Whether there is more to it than that we will probably never know.

These AFLW foundation years were always going to be a bit of a dogs breakfast.
At least when Hawthorn and Essendon join that will be the end of the expansion raids and it will then be up to clubs to keep their lists together.
I think our core of young players seem to have forged a strong bond and connection to the club so I think we will do OK this time around.
State based drafts will be a thing until the competition is fully professional which is going to be a fair way off.
It is up to the AFL to ensure that the competition is run in a fair and honest way, and it is up to the clubs to keep the AFL honest.
I'm sure that the clubs are all keeping tabs of what the other clubs are up to and will raise a flag if they see anything too suspicious.

Roberton arrives at the Kennel after a 129-game playing career with both Fremantle and St Kilda. He announced his retirement from the game earlier this year, following a two-month hiatus where he weighed up his post-football options. Bruce is no stranger to VU Whitten Oval, having crossed over from St Kilda during the 2019 AFL Trade Period. The 27-year-old has played 37 games in the red, white and blue since, slotting 48 goals from 20 games to finish this season as the Club’s leading goalkicker. An ACL injury in round 21 against Essendon – which also happened to be his 150thcareer match - saw him sidelined for the finals series, and while completing his rehab he will now dedicate part of his time to coaching.
