If the Melb uni connection was so strong at north

Where's Stevens where's Eva

That's right already on the afl gravy train

So how many promo appearances in Tasmania and how much each gets paid ?

Once again seems were paying for our oposition

Smacks of the zoning fiasco , 10 year rule fiasco which was the only way the basket case of a club could compete

Gee previous relationships didn't matter so much then, when you picked up o& m and eastern football league whilst keeping brunswick

cry me a river

i wont go back and forth anymore other than maybe if other clubs put in the work we did pre aflw they would be better prepared in keeping and attracting players

put in the work reap the rewards

but now apparently get handicapped before the bounce of a ball

anyway a testament to the club and the work done
looking forward to the year and hope this fuels the team to win it all
cant handicap nmfc
You keep talking about all this amazing hard work that NMFC did prior to the AFLW.

Can you give a bit of detail on this?

I’m aware there is a relationship, but not really clear on any of the detail

Obviously reading comprehension not a strong suit. I never said we were hard done by with draft order.

I said the system itself is poor that it wasn't outlined to clubs how it would work and that rules were left so vague as to allow the AFL to make it up as they went. Compensation is a part of that. It's not a good system.

Any idiot could see that new clubs were going to target half decent players.

It was pretty clear to Geelong who were smart to target a few good players and go for mostly their VFLW team in order to have a strong hand of picks at the draft. North would of known that they would be risking the loss of their picks, and went full on make a all-star team. Clubs knew how it would work, thats why we saw two different methods of building the list.

With the announcement that Victorian players will be able to pre-nominate either Victoria, Vic Metro, Geelong or another state pre-draft, some of the assumptions made in recent weeks might be out the window.

Stand-out player and probable #1 talent Maddie Prespakis would have been a certainty to have been selected by Geelong, who hold the first 2 selections in the 2018 draft.

Now, however, she may well nominate Vic Metro as her preferred draft destination (she does play for Melb Uni in the VFLW).

Geelong, who already has a strong hand at the draft, might lose access to the best talent available in Prespakis, however there is the silver lining that there may well be a lot of Vic Country reps (and specifically the strong Geelong Falcons team members) available to the Cats all the way down to their later picks.

AFL grants Geelong another free kick at this year’s AFLW draft
ELIZA SEWELL, Herald Sun

RIVAL clubs are bracing for Geelong to sweep the AFLW draft after the league granted the Cats further concessions, with prospective players able to nominate Geelong as their preferred home in 2019.

The AFL has required potential female draftees to nominate a state or region they want to play in and when applications open on Monday for October’s draft, expansion club Geelong will have its own box.

In the state-based draft, Victorian players will be able to opt to be drafted to regions including Geelong, Melbourne metro, or all of Victoria. Players can also nominate a different state to the one where they live in, if they’re happy to move.

While the concession has rivals concerned Geelong could land the top players by simply getting them to nominate the Cats, it’s understood the AFL will strongly police the rule.

The Cats draft rule is aimed at players who live in Geelong and don’t want to move away to play football.

Geelong already has the first two picks in the draft, followed by 11, 14, 15, 35, 46 and 57.

Rival clubs are also concerned the nomination rule will see Geelong use its later picks to secure local talent who would have otherwise commanded a higher pick in an uncompromised draft.

Geelong Falcons players Nina Morrison, Olivia Purcell and Denby Taylor are considered top five prospects, but if they nominate their home town the Cats can hold off calling their names until deep in the draft.

This could allow Geelong to secure hugely talented Calder Cannon Madison Prespakis

Prespakis doesn’t have to necessarily nominate Geelong, if she nominates all of Victoria the Cats can still take her with their No.1 pick.

Compromised drafts are always great for competitions

This is giving Geelong a massive advantage over the other clubs by basically giving them their own zone each season.

This fly by the seat of their pants competition is getting beyond a joke.

It's a semi-professional comp, so the only solution is to have players nominate by state or city/region, as is the case in Victoria.

They could actually broaden the concept, and, for example, allow players to nominate for Vic/NSW, or for Qld/NSW so that a player could be available for any club in those states (given all clubs still go through a draft order).

Pay them a living wage (at least for the 4-5 months of pre-season + season), extend the season and the product will improve. This allows players to train three times a week instead of one or two at night after work and not worry about financial losses when having to give up shifts/work to fly interstate for the weekend.

As mentioned here, two players have had to leave their clubs due to work related reasons (and another for personal reasons) ontop of the Crows losing their premiership coach because of her main job. Sophie Li has had to return to her home state for work reasons despite playing in Victoria this year.

She's a trained paramedic in SA but unable to work in that role in Victoria due to qualifications and healthcare system differences afaik.

Interesting to see a handball player coming over. It's actually the game from which the common game of handball at Aussie schools draws it's heritage from.

And the first player has been selected from the draft. Abbie Mckay taken with pick 16 after another club also bid on her but we took her pre-draft?

Either way, technically, the 2018 draft has started, it'll just continue as normal in two weeks.
