We have poorly recruited experienced players - there’s 2-3 that have performed to an AFLW standard, but the rest aren’t up to it. All the other expansion clubs killed us in this…..why would this be the case is the million dollar question!

Our recruiting team, which includes the coach, should be held accountable for this, but they probably won’t be.

Most of the kids that we drafted are going to be good, but they will be developing in a caldron of fire without enough protection or support.
Did the shortened turnaround between getting the license and the first game have an effect?

based on percentage which is a good tell of where you're at, we're battling in the bottom 3 this year

West Coast - 54.1%
Gold Coast - 51.5%
Port Adel - 67.4%
Fremantle - 38.1%
Sydney - 35.5%
Hawthorn - 28.8%

Hard to see us winning a game at this point, but I guess we’ll have a chance against Freo and the Swans.

Might be time to look towards the draft already. 😂

Unfortunately we’re a bit like the first few seasons of GWS - a lot of draftees with a few journeywomen from other clubs. With the exception of TLR, Gillroy and Ashmore, most of the experienced players are basically DFAs from other clubs. Maybe we got left high and dry a bit in ultimately unsuccessful pursuits such as Emily Bates and Bonnie Toogood, both of whom we were identified as front runners in the media in the lead up to the trade period and came up empty.

I would include Stephenson in that group, maybe Luke too. But it's tough, even using Ashmore as just an example, who does a lot of good, fades in and out of games. As for the others, there were always going to be reasons other club let them go so easily. Maybe we haven't got the mix right. Hard to tell if it will pay off because it comes down to how the rookies turn out in 2-3 seasons time.

I think for the time being as long as they're being coached well and morale off the ground seems high (even if instagram/twitter is only going to only be positive) we just have to try and be patient.
