trying to not let the Berry suspension ruin this game experience :(

solid quarter again. A bit more defending there, and we did well to hold them to 1.

Wardlaw has to answer to Dawes for that goal steal ;)

As someone who doesn’t watch a lot of AFLW can I ask if people truthfully enjoy watching these horrendously lopsided games? It’s an uncompetitive training drill.

There seems to be a chasm between the top 6-8 and bottom 6-8. Too quick with the expansion?

I just enjoy watching the players enjoy themselves playing a sport that feels like a lot of men players take for granted.

Honestly watching the Lions AFLW play is pretty good. The other teams are competitive in close - they contest well. The Lions are just superior moving the ball forward. The men’s AFL has similar differences really, good teams mostly overwhelm weaker teams even though they compete hard at the contest.

One team getting high scores is fun if it is your team. It is when both teams battle out a four goal slog that it gets a little harder to enjoy. That will change in time.

There is also a real feeling that the girls are actually enjoying themselves - without intending to be condescending in any way, it is a similar vibe to watching junior footy - the love of the sport and playing with mates. It makes the games more enjoyable to relax and watch I think.

After following the women from day 1 I certainly feel invested in each and everyone of them and it has been fantastic to watch them develop their skills and team work over the seasons. Also having Starc at the helm is such a positive for the club and enjoy his insightful and sometimes controversial Pressers. Being a Lion for so long with many lean years, having a successful team always helps. Luv my Ladies.

Did you enjoy watching the men beat North Melbourne by more than a 100 points this season?

Yes I did - but it was one game. There were probably two uncompetitive teams in the male competition this year, it seems as if there is a much greater divide between the good and not-so-good AFLW teams.

Expansion was always going to do this. Especially in SAA,WA NSW & Qld - where the established side has the local talent tied up and the new team gets the rest. Give it time. IMO, money spent on the AFLW is a better investment than GWS.

I give allowances for some of these lopsided matches due to ineptitude and the rush by the AFL. Our Lions don't deserve to miss out on our support just because they have managed to handle the challenges the AFLW have created for themselves.

Like others have said above I view these matches more holistically.

I will say though, I don't get as much enjoyment watching non-lions matches in the AFLW as I do for AFLM.

Soon I hope that will change, as the skill level equalizes etc and I get to know more of the stars of the comp.

One aspect which I really like (which will probably soon abate as the pathways to aflw continue to get stronger) is the different skill sets players bring from their prior sporting experience. Love seeing the irish women come in, and Hodder and her tackling prowess.. commentators continue to say that's her rugby background, but I just reckon she's extremely skilled ;)

It depends on the teams for me. The Carlton Port game today was exciting despite being obviously not two top tier sides. Whereas I find pretty much any game involving Geelong or West Coast nearly unwatchable.

People flock to see the Harlem Globetrotters, don't they?

The AFLW commentators are better than nearly every AFL commentators. They just call the game, add insights about players, analyse patterns and strategies, point out umpiring errors but don’t dwell on them to create drama. It is actually refreshing.

They show appropriate excitement, without the endless cliches and false drama. They don’t obviously play favourites or show bias, they get player names right, understand the rules - it is like they have had training or something! Unlike the blokey nonsense dished up half the time in the mens’ game.
