Hmmmm. Not sure about that deal.

We've essentially traded her for a future 1st. With pick 4 and 38 being a wash (points wise) for 14, 21 and 32.

We'd have to hope for the Suns to finish last

We also swapped our future 1st for 21 and 39. So basically it's

14, 2026 1st, Hatchard, 32 for pick 4, Suns 2026 1st, 38, 39

Gave up Hatchard to upgrade our firsts to 4 and the Suns future pick

Don't bother looking at the points, they're never a true measure of the value of draft picks. There's no way a club would agree to swap pick 4 for pick 14 just to receive a couple of picks in the 20s and 30s.

It's not an incredible deal, but it's decent. Pick 4 gives us a serious commodity in the draft. Now we need to use it on a player that can move the needle.

Meanwhile, Gold Coast were wooden spooners this year. Two wins and the worst percentage in the league. If they have a similar year next year then it's a big win.

Interesting to note that Erin Phillips is general manager of women's football at Gold Coast these days. Was that a deciding factor in Hatchard moving, I wonder?

My thinking was more that Gold Coast would have made a trade that's very similar to that without Hatchard being involved because of their Academy players at the draft

They've already announced they want to leave, so I doubt it.

Hopefully it might prevent the next important player from leaving, though.

Good to get Egan in fairly cheap. Essentially for the steak knife in the Hatchard trade.

Essentially Hatchard + picks 14 and 32, for Egan, pick 4, and (hopefully) a very strong 2026 pick.

The Richmond fans say she has terrible disposal or something. She finished the season well despite losing all that weight in pre-season from that illness. For pick 38, it's worth the risk, plus we just lost Hatchard

Hatchard's disposal isn't much chop either. Call it a draw

I'm sure we would have been happy to have her, but there is something to be said about trying to bring in people from outside the club. Erin spent the majority of her career here.

Asked someone I know who works at AFLW if they had any insights as to why Hatchard, Prowse and Boileau left

Hatchard straight up wanted to play under Phillips

Prowse and Boileau both have had clubs in their ear for ages - they stayed hoping for a flag but now that it looks like we are out of the window they are taking the bigger money offers elsewhere

This is what I assumed. We have been able to keep players because of the allure of competing for a flag, but given that we seem a step behind the top clubs, that's a harder sell.

Mind you, clubs couldn't have been in Boileau's ear for long - she's only been on the list for two years! I'm more worried about the likes of Gould.
