Up till now observations of AFL have shaped my perpsective on AFLW.

Well the time has come for some "food for thought" traffic going the other way.

Based on the transition of Kearney to the backline - competitor, smart, team focused, fit but not super skillful - who could do this in the AFL team?

Simpkin immediately came to mind. Similar skillset and character, wonder if he could similarly drop back as a productive member and leader in the backline?

Isn't that what we did with JZ?

Hard to think of a player in the men’s team who could be considered anywhere near equivalent to a woman who has been best 22 in the whole comp every year for eight years - was one of the league’s best midfielders year after year, then became one of the best defenders.

We haven't had anyone like that since Carey. And for all his flaws as a human he was one of the best footballers to ever play the game.
