See this is the problem with some atheists. Of course you have your own ideologies and practices. What do you mean by atheist ideologies and practices? There's no such thing. Oh, you mean equality for women and homosexuals, right?
You're absolutely free to practice your religion as you wish in the privacy of your home or mosque. If aspects of your beliefs interfere with your ability to perform your job, find a different job.
I'd apply the same standard to a nurse who refuses to conduct abortions because of their religious beliefs.
See this is the problem with some atheists. Of course you have your own ideologies and practices.
Ideology - a system of ideas and ideals, especially one which forms the basis of economic or political theory and policy.
Practice - the actual application or use of an idea, belief, or method, as opposed to theories relating to it.
Sourcing your morality and practices from secular law (be it sexual or otherwise) is still having ideologies and practices. It's just secular ideologies as opposed to Religious. The fact that you can't even recognise that is the reason why some modern-day atheists struggle to co-exist with others with different beliefs. It's why they can't live in a multi-cultural society.
You're acting like we don't already compromise every day of our lives. Most of us have sacrificed money, careers, promotions or job opportunities because it's not consistent with our belief. Of course we'd look at the job description first before committing to the job rather than demanding our employer to change. The problem arises when the job description changes, but that's when we can speak to the employer to see how we can work around that. If we can't, then we resign and move on.
In Zreika's case, wearing a rainbow jumper is not a part of her job description, nor was it something GWS did until this year. She already had a contract prior to its introduction. Given it's a change to what she normally wears, she went and spoke to her coach and advised him of her concerns. He understood and permitted her to sit out. It's really not a big deal.

I'm not trying to group atheists into the same category. I'm just stating what typical left western atheists believe and where their sense of morality comes from. I thought it was pretty obvious that I was referring to western left atheists given the context of my original posts. Unless you thought any of my posts were referring to communist atheists or right-wing atheists...Jesus this is ******* dumb. Atheism is not believing in a god, that’s all it is. Atheists can get their morality from anywhere, plenty of atheists don’t agree with many laws. Trying to group atheists into the same belief system like you would people sharing the same religion is moronic.
Stop ******* posting until you work out the difference between following a religion and atheism, seeing such dumb dribble constantly posted is tedious.
This is such a strange hill to die on.Atheism is a practice/ideology/religion like baldness is a hairstyle.
How exactly do atheists struggle to coexist with religious people? Are we trying to fight against equality for Muslims? Do we demand that you have no legal right to marriage because we don't approve of your beliefs?
Can you explain why she finds playing in a pride game acceptable while wearing the pride jumper isn't. The way I see it, a pride game promotes equality irrespective of the jumper.
I appreciate the explanation. Cheers.I'm not trying to group atheists into the same category. I'm just stating what typical left western atheists believe and where their sense of morality comes from. It's arguing semantics really because I could say "ideologies and practices that western left atheists typically associate with" and it's still saying the same thing. Political ideologies are still ideologies even if it has nothing to do with Religion.
This is such a strange hill to die on.
Not believing in the existence of God is the opposite of believing in the existence of God, not the opposite of having a belief in general. Baldness is not a hairstyle, but it's still a style because styles are not limited to hairstyles. I'm not saying atheism and Religion are the same (clearly they are not), but that doesn't mean an atheist doesn't follow ideologies, even if it differs wildly from the next atheist. Like I said above, there are some ideologies and practices that western left atheists typically associate with. Practices and ideologies aren't restricted to Religion.
Not all, but some western left atheists do struggle to co-exist with others because they force their ideas on others and threaten people's careers and livelihood if they choose not to conform to it, even if the person isn't doing anything against Australian law.
For example, look at this thread. How many people were calling for Zreika to be deregistered for not wearing a jumper despite there being an amicable agreement between Zreika, the club, the coach and her teammates? That's not promoting co-existence. Both the far right and the far left struggle to live peacefully in a multicultural society.
The last line is an interesting point because most would probably not do either if they can avoid it. The acts of playing football in and of itself is not associated with acceptance/promotion, as opposed to wearing a rainbow jumper that signifies acceptance/promotion. The first is the doing of the AFLW/GWS, the second relates to Zreika's actions. It's like a company saying "tomorrow, we're going to celebrate christmas at the workplace" and then you arrive to just do your regular job that has nothing to do with celebrating christmas. This is different to a company saying "tomorrow, we're all going to celebrate christmas by decorating a christmas tree". Now, this is physically engaging in that action, which Muslims would sit out on.
Imagine what would happen if a gay player tried to sit out Multicultural Round on the grounds that some cultures are not accepting of gay people.
It wouldn't be tolerated. And in this instance, religious privilege could not be invoked as a defence.
Different religion, same rejection.I wonder how the reaction would have been had Haneen been Christian making the same statement.
Different religion, same rejection.
When it comes to same-sex people, Western Sydney is very different to the rest of Australia.
It's disgusting that people can protest against equality with impunity because of religion. Having an imaginary friend shouldn't give you any benefits in 2022.
Would we accept the same stance from a homophobic atheist?
It still would have caused disquiet.I mean in terms of how the reaction / acceptance of the statement has been.
She got a very easy run by the media and the AFL/W
What would be the outcome if she sat out the indigenous round because she did not believe in equal rights for Black people? What if there was a diversity round and someone sat it out because they hate Muslims? They would be kicked out of the game.
She is a hateful bigot. You don't respect others' sexuality? F-you, go sit home with the other religious nutters.
If you believe your "God" says you should discriminate against people, both you and your God are toxic and you should be treated that way.
The only good thing about this is watching the Scott Morrison/Hillsong bigots who hate both Muslims and Gays - they are doing a half-hearted support of her, confused who to hate.

Isn’t she willing to physically engage by playing in pride week? How is playing in pride week different from wearing a slightly different jumper that highlights pride week? Now, this is physically engaging in that action, which Muslims would sit out on.
