I didn't find Kellt Underwood too bad. Spud Frawley was the worst of them yesterday

I just remember that moment she ruined at the end of the Hawthorn, Geelong game when Bartel kicked a behind to win.

On the flipside, it would be great if after a teething period a few of the lady commentators show they have enough to move up to the AFL commentary teams and kick some of the boorish blokes out of the booth.

I think the problem with Kelli is that she tried to copy the mens style. They have to find their own methods.

The thing I loved about all the women's games were no faking or diving or ducking heads for free kicks what I viewed. Made easier for umpires for decisions IMO. Loved all the games. Loved the differences in each persons style and ability. Some are natural with their kicking styles and others aren't. Great viewing all weekend IMO.

I was at the game. I brought along sunscreen unfortunately as it was hot. Parking was an adventure, carrying chairs and all our stuff we had to jump over wire fences to get to ground from the back way. Nestled into a little group of Melbourne supporters by accident. Skills were poor for both teams, but you could see the Lions had systems and were using them. We certainly didn't play as herald sun had rated us! How can a team be assessed unseen in Melbourne by experts? We were tougher when the weather turned horrendous, rendering my sunscreen superfluous. The general feeling in the crowd was nice, I didn't swear once, at the footy anyway. Casey Fields was beautiful but way too far away unless you are a committed supporter. It reminded me of going to chilly old Waverley in the good old days. Lucky we won as the drive home Sopping wet would have been awful. Was frustrated to find nothing about our marvelous win on the radio while we were stuck in carpark for 30 odd minutes and had to settle for my own excitement. A WIN!!!! Sorry for the rambling. GO LIONS!!!!

This is what we call 'classical technique' for AFL journalism ;).

The continuing narrative from the Victorian based media on this game seems to be Melbourne lost it rather then our girls winning it. Certainly the Dees squandered some chances and the better articles acknowledge how solid our defence was, but I am feeling a little aggrieved on behalf of the girls.
Still, if we continue to fly under the radar like this, it can only help us if we continue to defy expectations.

Frustrating isn't it. How the media can make some of these comments is beyond me given there is virtually no meaningful form line for any team in the comp. A lot of the comments and analysis I've seen have been without any evidence or explanation.

And to think we haven't even seen what the ladies can do in dry conditions!

I can imagine a scenario where we play two more games, drop one in the dry, dominate the other in a game that is played in overcast conditions with 5 minutes of drizzle at the end of the final quarter and we get dubbed "wet weather specialists"!

Yup, easy out for the Vic media.

Ironic because Harris and Sabrina F-T easily looked the most threatening forward targets on either team if the conditions dried out.

I think that was a real club lifter of a win , and generated great hope and enthusiasm. As Starcevich pointed out, they were dealt a seemingly rotten drawer and embraced the moment. Great mental strength shown by all concerned. A big club positive, wonderful effort in toughest conditions.

5. The Lions have got some ticker. Hopefully the men’s team were watching and can show the same amount of fight in 2017. Brisbane was given little chance of upsetting Melbourne at Casey Fields but they dug deep, handled the horrific conditions better and kicked away for a stirring win. Senior coach Craig Starcevich spoke earlier in the week of the tremendous spirit in the group and they lived up to the club’s marketing motto, “All for one’’.

doesn't seem to be linking.. Anyway, thought this segment particularly poor. Why not give the team that won some credit and not just try and explain the loss away for Melbourne.

A new Melbourne for a new competition
Melbourne's status as one of the pioneering AFL clubs of women's football led some to believe it was an automatic finals team. But the draft meant their all-star players were redistributed to other clubs, with only five players (Melissa Hickey, Elise O'Dea, Karen Paxman, captain Daisy Pearce and Lauren Pearce) remaining from September's all-star team.

The state-based draft meant they also had to share the top Victorian players with three other teams, whereas the Brisbane Lions (who defeated them on Sunday) had all the best Queensland talent to themselves. Also, the Demons have taken a long-term view, with 10 of their 27-player list aged 21 or under.

FFS so when we don't win we are a drain on the competition and when we do win, with mainly qlders, we have so many advantages how could we not win. (essentially they are calling us cheats). this really is just the vfl and tolerated friends.

Mike Fitzpatrick was the epitome of this attitude on the weekend, ungracious f@@= he is.

What happened with Fitzpatrick?

That's laughable. Might as well complain about how NRL State of Origin teams can't take part in the NRL premiership and are instead split amongst teams.

He was just smarmy when talking about the women's league, clear he thought it was beneath him. It is just the vfl old boys club and we should be grateful they let us participate.

I guess mentioning the SA, WA and NSW teams this applied to - and the fact that 2 of them lost on the weekend - didn't fit the narrative. Nor the fact that the Bulldogs and the Blues manged to have wins despite drafting from the 'shared pool' of VIC players.

Hey, don't let logic get in the way of a good whinge.

Um, don't the Lions have a dozen players 21 and under? Plus the Dogs seemed to do alright with their "redistribution of talent". Whatever.

Don't forget his line to Sam Lane when interview during the Pies Blues where he turned to her and said something to the effect of You're more excited than I am....

He apparently flew back from London for this, and all he said was that it Sam seemed was even more excited than he was. It didnt come across as smarmy or beneath him at all.
