After non stop rolling over the top of teams all year we finally ran out of puff in the end. It is what it is, we're a couple years ahead of schedule, another draft and a couple trade targets and they'll be ready to have a proper crack at it.

Easy to say with Rentsch, Western and Rowley out, but we need more pace in this team.

Clearly lacking the fitness that Blues have but that'll come in time. Looking forward to seeing more time with Rentsch and Painter playing onball next to Ella next season. Lots of growth all round in this group, really stoked with how far they've improved this season.

A very strange thing to say when they've ran over the top of teams like three times this year but you're right. That's the difference between a finals team and a young up and coming team.

So flat. Blues were excellent. I think the season caught up with the girls tonight.

Roberts, Thomas and Britton were all good but quieter games for many of the 1st/2nd year players. We’re so young - we’ll be better for the season and super excited to see this team continue to develop - 2026 promises to be exciting!

We’re well ahead of schedule with the youngest (second youngest?) list in the comp. But that really did feel like a bit of a lightning in a bottle, where were you when season that ended with a final, possibly even a home finals win with how it shook out late.

Ella a late out and the umpiring last week was as frustrating as it gets, then to lose our best two speed run and carry players into a night like tonight is just such shit luck.

We need more midfield depth to support Ella when she’s being pre-tackled 10m off the ball. We also need a true monster forward, even more so if Painter makes the move into the middle.

The development of Lakfer and Cleaver has been unbelievable. The Roux switch down back proved inspired. Zakfer had a great year too.

Thomas Cleaver Roux
Zakfer Schilling Rentsch

Bloody exciting foundation for a backline.

An Essendon miracle aside, it’s a shit way to end our best season yet. But I’m so proud of the team. Would love to have a few home games in sunshine next year as a fun change of pace, hit the draft hard and go again.

Yeah great the draft, where Gold Coast (last finals appearance: 2023) get assigned 5 of the 6 best players and where perennial sad sacks West Coast (last finals appearance: file not found) get the privilege of selecting something like the 16th best player by finishing 10th worst in the comp.

5 players nominated for the 22 under 22. Hope that means we have a super talented core of pure footy players.
That last forward charge we made with our Izzy Lewis in a one on one, only to have a player run past without moving to handball receive felt like a lack of footy instinct.
Imagine bit of a fairweather watcher and can't pick out tactics well to save my life, but that was not the last gasp charge of someone who had played footy their whole life.

It must have been horrendous conditions for footy tonight, so well toughed out, girls. Disappointing end, but back bigger and better next season.

As a young lady said when I walked past, Sydney have a couple injures...
They knew much more about the state of the comp then me, so I 100% trust them :)

Yeah they’ve lost a couple of their best players for the year, didn’t stop them from beating us last week. They face Essendon, who are hot garbage and have lost 8 on the trot.

It’s over, unfortunately.

I was at Oasis tonight so my plan was to get back and watch the replay - saw the score and now I’m flat, we got pantsed?
Nah, not pantsed at all, we put in extreme effort and blues played really well.
Was tight all the way until the last qtr where we just ran out of puff probably half way through the last.

It was tied at 3QT, we kicked the first to take the lead through a beautiful Painter mark and goal from 40.

Carlton kicked the next few then iced it with a piss off torp after the siren.

Conditions killed us, slickest deck and just had no speed on the ball or ability to chain marks.

And are down to multiple top up players.

Donezo.

Did they just pack it in for the last quarter then? Just looked at the score worm - pretty grim.

Nah, it was a very low scoring struggle in the conditions.

Carlton got one back very quickly after we took the lead, then had extended time inside 50, some pretty dodgy whistles to truly wind us up and then the last five or so minutes were a desperate pump it forward then have it come back ping pong match.

Goal after the siren makes it look like a pantsing, but we led at QT-HT-tied at 3QT and kicked the first of Q4.

Just went cold at the wrong time on a dirty night in general.

Daisy is such a great communicator. Loved her post match, disappointed but excited and has a deep belief in this squad.
While i'm sad we lost i'm so excited for the future of this team.
