AFLW AFLW Season 2022

only able to catch a bit of this one but glad the girls bounced back and got a W!
Also nice to see we have a positive percentage again after losing by the biggest margin of round 1 last week. IMO it's important to keep perspective on the fixture when discussing our women's team. North are obviously very good and they proved it on Friday night when they fell agonisingly short to Melbourne by 2 points. We've also got Brisbane at the Gabba next week and we know they have always been one of the heavyweight teams of the AFLW so again, we need to keep perspective on the draw.

We play Port Adelaide, Richmond and Sydney in consecutive weeks between round 5-7 as well as GWS in round 10. All of those teams are currently winless so there's plenty of opportunity for wins later in the season. St Kilda and Carlton are also potential wins for our girls but I get the feeling Brisbane may hand us a thrashing next week and some supporters will think our AFLW team is no good when that's not really fair considering the teams we've played to date.

Great to see Bradfield back, should be better for the run.
Also great to see a few players getting better, especially Daisy, but need a couple more good kicks. Well behind some of the better teams on the kicking front (distance and direction).

Missed the game as I was driving home from the VFL in Sydney but looks like a good result. Second highest score ever and good to see some different players stepping up

Astounding to think that Daisy is in her third AFLW season already, hasn't missed a single game since debuting (played 21 AFLW games to date) and is still just 19 years old! It should come as no surprise to anyone that she holds the record for the youngest player to ever debut in AFLW. Incredible stuff!

expansion and more importantly Port Adelaide has ruined all our progress, growth and development we saw last season 😢

That, and Lions are a well-oiled machine.
True we see this gap between the teams who have started in 2017 and everyone else. Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane have been strong pretty much every year. Little list changes, 7 years to develop skill and team game plan. It definitely shows.

Brisbane also didn’t get raided by expansion whereas we did. They has players get offered contracts at expansion teams but stayed. Ours didn’t apart from Stanton and Howarth.

If you bomb the ball as far as you can possibly kick it every time you get the ball you’re just going to keep turning it over, it happened all day bar a small patch at the end of the third quarter

Zero pressure in the first half got smashed in all key stats

Lions still got a good core of players from the initial build, but they have plenty of more recent arrivals who are very good which I think is where they are making the gap to most other teams. Suspect their bottom 8 players on the field would run rings around most other teams. Note they are missing their best defender this year...

Seems obvious now that Brisbane have the best AFLW coach and an excellent development program. They bring in a some athletic players who can run but whose skills improve b/c of the development program and coaching. Their players get better year on year, and that running ability really shows out when the skills get better....

So we started behind and are getting further away, but we are not the only team in the comp that applies to.
