Both Levi sisters has been offered the opportunity of a full-time position as part of the Australian Women’s Rugby program ahead of the 2022 Commonwealth Games and will be forced to put their promising AFLW careers on hold.

Extremely disappointing. Just when I thought the girls would start killing it.

this is so sad! Two of our rising suns. Thought we might be a chance for finals this season but don't think so now. Very disappointed. Hopefully they come back post Brum.

Interesting quote in the article

“We have tried to provide every opportunity for the players to continue to pursue both sports at the elite level so it’s disappointing that flexibility hasn’t been reciprocated.”

Seems as if the Suns might be a bit frustrated with rugby here and also appears that rugby have been playing hard ball with the girls. Some may say selfishly? Do we know if the girls are playing Super W or is it just in camps preparing for the Commonwealth Games?

We've had issues in the past with Rugby Australia/Queensland Reds/Bond University Rugby. Does anyone remember Angus Blyth? Highly rated 203cm rugby union schoolboy from the Gold Coast who had never played Aussie rules but we had a genuine crack at to convert to our game in 2016. That pissed off a lot of the local rugby union folk and Angus ended up signing professional contracts with both the Queensland Reds and Rugby Australia. These days Blyth is an important player for the Reds and has been very close to selection for the Wallabies on multiple occasions.

The Levi sisters also happened to come through the Bond University pathway and have now signed contracts with Rugby Australia too. So they are probably getting a bit of revenge on us now by signing both sisters to non-compete contracts. It's sad but at least we can hold our heads high and say we gave the girls every opportunity to compete at the highest level in both sports.

Damn..
Maddi looks like being a player.
Hopefully back at some point, but good on them for getting longer term money.

But another battle ground opens in women's sport. If a sport ain't got cash to splash they will struggle for women athletes. Now that Rugby 7's is getting the cash from the Olympics and the Comm Games they can splash a bit around.

What do we know about these two girls?

Shannon Danckert is originally from Fish Creek in Victoria where she played A grade netball alongside Sam Flanders' sister Hannah. She then moved to Melbourne to study Exercise Science at Deakin University before enrolling at Griffith University in 2019 for her Masters of Physiotherapy degree. She's captained the Bond University QAFLW team for the last two seasons and won the league best and fairest award this year. FYI we've got a few QAFLW best and fairest winners on our list now - Danckert, Tori Groves-Little, Leah Kaslar and Jade Pregelj.

Jacqueline Dupuy is originally from Melbourne but has spent recent years in Cairns playing high level netball. She played for Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast in the QAFLW this year and finished second the league best and fairest count this year.

Lets hope shaw is a coach, i heard a whisper Kieran Daly was one?? Bloke has never coached a game in his life, was the runner last year!
Just putting the wrong people in roles again?
Daly played in the Cairns League for Cairns Saints, worked for AFL Cairns lm pretty sure ,definitely not a coach at this level.

Maybe it is another result of clubs using same staff over multiple programs?
