The building of a team through drafting is somewhat interesting although they were probably told who they could and couldn’t pick. The actual AFLX though is pretty lame, State of Origin would’ve actually been awesome though.

Was pretty much the ideal opportunity. Reduced player numbers, obscure field and rules bringing the elites back to the pack. Would have been half sensible.

Much like fantasy draft leagues, the best part is picking your players and then never looking at your team again.
Which i think will be the same for AFLX.

Bit cringey in parts and didn't watch it all, but liked the idea of televising the draft.

Enjoyed watching the draft. Don’t care how scripted it was.
Still think it’s a huge waste of time, resources, energy.
SOO wouldn’t really work here either, we would still be frustrated with how gimmicky it is. It’s not AFL and you aren’t going to brag about winning it.

Imagine players selecting a team for a real game though or at least close to the real thing as the 3rd practice match in the pre season.
The AFL could still trial a few things and pay ridiculous amounts of money to players for one game so they get involved.
It’s not like we are trying to take our game internationally here as this is nothing like AFL.

It just seems to me to be counterproductive to the multicultural messages that keeps being promoted.

If a white player came out and said they only wanted their aryan brothers on their team I highly doubt people would be ok with it.

Despite some new silly rules and half-baked gimmicks (in addition to the old ones), this is an impressive assemblage of football talent. Not having it tied to existing clubs will give it a less rigid vibe and we'll probably see way more flashy skills and adventurous play than the typical match for premiership points.

There is no equivalence between the Indigenous All-Stars and an Aryan team. Rather than going for the most inflammatory example, what if an Irish heritage squad with Boston Celtics-type branding was also included? I think it would be a well-received homage to the contributions that Stynes etc brought to the game and it'd make the whole concept more interesting imo (especially if they played the tournament a few weeks later!).

I don't know of anybody outraged by the Italian Team of the Century. Those wanting to make an issue of the "Deadly" AFLX team, just, carn...

Kelly had post season hip surgery. He's on a programme to be ready for the season. No room for distractions like AFLX.

Martin was hampered at the end of last year will as I recall?

Buddy will be on an individual program and managing body issues no doubt, like most older players.

I cannot fathom how they only playing with 8 on field. I thought last year's experiment showed it was actually too uncontested as a first test. Players could virtually do as they wanted and it was like football-tennis of just each team taking turns kicking for goal from other end.
Surely 10 or 11 on field would make the experiment more watchable. At least make a player feel like someone is near them to possibly tackle or bump them.
