I don’t think AFLX will be as terrible as everyone thinks, it’ll be similar to Rugby 7s, Futsal or Arena Football (indoor NFL), I’d go along and Hindmarsh is not a bad stadium

The AFLX competition is going ahead. As yet the exact times for the games have not been finalised but the three groups have been decided on and the day and place of their round-robin.

Each AFLX tournament will consist of six teams, divided into two pools of three.
Teams in the same pool will play against each other once, with the top team from each pool facing off in a Grand Final.

Details of the groups of six and where they will play :

Pool A, Hindmarsh Stadium, Thursday February 15
Adelaide, Collingwood, Fremantle, Geelong, Port Adelaide, West Coast

Pool B, Etihad Stadium, Friday February 16
Carlton, Essendon, Hawthorn, Melbourne, North Melbourne, St Kilda

Pool C, Allianz Stadium, Saturday February 17
Brisbane Lions, Gold Coast, Greater Western Sydney, Richmond, Sydney, Western Bulldogs

Just don't injure any of our boys and it'll be ok.

Field our worst players only IMO, Hewett, Irra, Lienert, McKenzie, Snelling, Frampton, Drew, Toumpas, Ladhams and maybe a couple of the new draftees.

I wouldn't want any of our top 25 players participating in this. But it has the potential of being entertaining. Depending on the weather, cost and other commitments I might go.

edit: not a fan of Thursday night footy though.

Sounds ****ing stupid. Not interested at all. 20/20 was introduced because cricket was struggling big time. AFL is going better than ever and this is not needed.

If any of our players get injured, I will be furious.

AFL does not work on a ground that size. What is the point in this?

It's being sold as a potential way to increase the appeal and participation rates in non footy markets (domestic and international) where large grounds and large numbers of players are harder to come by and make playing footy a logistical challenge. It's a worthy idea from that point of view, but nobody is sure why it's being forced into the schedule for AFL clubs.

I don't think it'll be terrible. I think it'll be pointless.

T20 was the logical shrinking of a 50 over game that had started to become a massive drag from over 10 to 40. It served the purpose of making the game a short 3 hour game that was more family and tv friendly. It brought the BEST players out to play, even managing to bring in high profile international recruits for BBL, IPL, etc, and it introduced higher, more rapid and more exciting scoring and shots. Whilst it seemed like it'd really never have much importance, most were proven wrong when the formula worked, and not just a little, but BIG TIME. T20 has been a huge success on the back of logical decisions.

AFL doesn't need to have the game shortened, it doesn't need different participation, it doesn't need to change anything to cater to any excluded markets. AFLX is going to be pointless just like T20 was at first, but it is going to clearly suffer from several issues that didn't plague a sport like T20, because the game just doesn't serve a purpose in terms of actual gameplay improvements. AFL X won't have the best talent, it doesn't improve on AFL, it doesn't bring an increase in things like 4's and 6's that bring excitement because AFL is already high scoring. It's just truly pointless.

They've done it for one reason, to make it easier for random groups to play, in places where having large footy fields aren't as accessible. And that's not bad, but why they are subjecting us to this is beyond me, why can't it just remain a group sport for randoms like AFL 9s was? If they start injuring AFL listed players in this crap there'll be hell to pay.

Imagine if Frampton does a shoulder or Atley does a knee. Imagine how we'd feel about this then.

Could happen in training. Seriously these players would love it. You can be on a list 5 years and not represent the club.

This is the backronymesque explanation.

Lethlean's pants-themed escapades gave them the perfect out to quietly shelve this and never speak of it again, but, here we are.

Clear attempt at trying to get a one up on cricket, i hope it fails, and fails miserably. Just like the one tennis tried.
A complete and utter waste of money that could be used elsewhere, like setting up a national reserves competition which would actually benifit the league a damn sight more than what this would.

What does the X stand for?
