Field is 100 - 120m long, and kicks outside the 40m arc are worth 10 points? Kick ins from the goal line after each score?

Here's how AFLX is going to play out: Bounce, clearance, 10 point goal. Kick in, mark 45m out. 30 second line up, 10 point goal. Kick in, mark 45m out. 30 second line up, 10 point goal. Kick in, scrap, clearance, 10 point goal. Rinse and repeat until the final siren.

I note nowhere in that graphic does it say they'll have a shortened countdown for a set shot on goal, so you've got to presume it'll be a 30 second countdown for each set shot.

It just sounds like an AFL version of force-em-back.

I'm so not interested in this concept at all.

Got more interest in the AFLW than this and I have very little interest in the AFLW.

That said like the AFLW I'll tune in (assuming it'll be on Fox Footy) and reserve judgement until then. But it doesn't really float my boat.

Sounds like it's just a really elaborate excuse to get Basil into the commentary box so that he can help 'explain the rules' after his effort with the International Rules series.

Bring on the AFLW.

AFL version of 20-20. No interest in it at all.
I don't get the T20 comparisons. A regular game of AFL is already shorter than a T20.

It's more an attempt at a Rugby Sevens type of thing. I actually prefer sevens rugby but it's a completely different sport with very different player-types.

I imagine AFLX will be similar in the player requirements. Fast and agile pretty much across the board with one or two bigger guys for specific roles.

Yeah I know that. The point I was making is the AFL don't need a watered down version of AFL as the games are already short enough to hold peoples attention. The whole concept of AFLX is ridiculous to me, the game is exciting enough as it is. The AFL wants to keep changing everything when the product for the most part is great as it is.

All good. I guess my position is that it won't really be a watered down version, more a completely different game.

If it takes off as a sport we might even see the rookie list replaced with a specialist aflx list in the future :p

I haven't seen it played, so it could be terrible. But I'll keep an open mind until I see it :)

No point getting worked up over it. If it's not your thing no need to watch.

I'm not really phased by AFLX myself, but I look forward to hopefully seeing some players given ops that kick start their form for the season proper. If it earns the players/club some money and helps build confidence in some young guys it can be considered a win.

Completely agree Nunez :thumbsupemoji:

I kind of feel the same way now as I did about AFLW 12 months ago. And that smashed pretty much everyone's expectations (including my own).

If it works then great. If it doesn't? No harm, no foul.

And no, that is not from the Betoota Advocate.
