As has been noted by others, I thought I was watching a game of basketball, the difference being that the players were kicking the ball instead of throwing it & there was tackling allowed.

The only future I could possibly see for AFLX is as a tournament at the end of the home & away season for the teams who don't make the finals (not unlike the old night competition from the late 50s through to the early 70s) & there would have to be a lucrative prize purse on offer for the team that wins the AFLX GF. It has no place in the pre-season at a time when players are working towards the JLT series. It is unfair on the players & coaches to be training for a modified game while at the same time focusing on match practice for the longer version of our game.

I was drifting in and out while doing other things but I quite liked it. Will sit down and watch it properly tomorrow when our boys are on.
Fast paced, familiar but different. Don’t think it will take off to a point where big names play or anyone cares too much about winning, but a bit of fun before the season proper.

It is what it is. A contrived, abbreviated version of the game played on grounds that would be readily available around the world.
Not a threat to our great game, but a harmless piece of promotion which has allowed mostly second stringers some exposure.
As long as AFL doesn't go stupid with (more)gimmickry promoting it I have no problem.

I really don't know what some people expect with the negativity. I did not have high hopes for it, but find it acceptable. Not unlike
watching the across ground match sim at the training sessions I managed to see at Maroochydore, with a little more competitiveness.

Will certainly be checking out our boys tonight, as I am sure will all the naysayers on here. Will at least alleviate the need for a training
report.

I didn't see it, but isn't it all about an adaptable game that can work in China. If there's a freak show at it from China, then an AFL club could bring them over, which would triple our tv deals and pump limitless money into the game

Watched the first half of the opening game, that was more than enough for me.

I’ll tape our games tomorrow night and watch at a later stage but that’ll be the extent of my interest.

Give me AFLW any day over this stuff.
Full game replays are on the club's website

It's just the latest example of AFL imperialism, as the AFL strives to dominate the calendar. This is also the real reason why the Women have to play their season in summer, and why the AFL season proper is gradually getting longer. When people are watching some form of footy all year round, 12 months of the year while the other sports we love fade into the background, it will be mission accomplished for the AFL.

This sums it up.....
AFLX, it provides the same answers as why some bloke is squatting on another blokes head...
I’m too old for this shit. FFS

Isn’t it bliss?
Don’t you approve?
One who keeps tearing around
One who can’t move
Where are the clowns
Send in the clowns

This is quite possibly the worst thing to happen to footy since Port Adelaide Football Club decided to sing a song before a home game that is not their club song nor has any relevance to any history of the club, but only requires their supporters to know just 7 words. AFLX is at about that level. Port Adelaide supporters must be loving it, then.
