As has been noted by others, I thought I was watching a game of basketball, the difference being that the players were kicking the ball instead of throwing it & there was tackling allowed.
The only future I could possibly see for AFLX is as a tournament at the end of the home & away season for the teams who don't make the finals (not unlike the old night competition from the late 50s through to the early 70s) & there would have to be a lucrative prize purse on offer for the team that wins the AFLX GF. It has no place in the pre-season at a time when players are working towards the JLT series. It is unfair on the players & coaches to be training for a modified game while at the same time focusing on match practice for the longer version of our game.
