I don’t know if this deserves its own thread but it’s been something I’ve been thinking about for quite some time. This is my best 22 in five years time. (Forgive me if I’ve made any mistakes or left someone out)

HB Paton (26). Battle (26). Wilkie (28)

C Hill (31) Steele (28) Billings (28)

HF ? King (24) ?
FF. Gresham (27) King (24) Membrey? (29)

Wild Cards: Parker (29) Sinclair (29) Dunstan (29)

The talent looks amongst the 24-28ish range. That’s players who have been drafted in the last 4 years. I think we should target players such as these. Thoughts?

Five years time is a tough length to predict, pretty good chance half of those guys won't be on the list in 2024.

Have a look at our most played players from five years ago, only 7 left from 45, 5 who played 10 games or more that year.

My (pure) guess is that Webster, Paton, Wilkie, Ross, Jones, Parker, Sinclair & Dunstan won't be on the list in 5 years and Hill will be battling injuries to play at his running best. Bytel I can't even comment on before seeing play 25-50 games of AFL footy.

Regardless of whether or not they're all still around or not in 5 years time what I think it does show is we have the chance for some sustained success once we make that jump into contention with some quality that is still very young right now
