Mine wasn't wry, it was to be taken literally.

Here's a club that we've monstered for 3 and a half decades, outperforming them by any and every objective measure of football performance, and the minute they finish above us, (some of) their supporters feel the need to come and tell us about our list. And snipe about it.

It's only aimed at those ones who post in ignorance, as I fully acknowledge there have also been some top quality Tigers supporters visiting of late.

Paying all of Goldys salary for next year adds value to any trade for a club looking for a ruck. We won't get a top 10 for him, but we could get a late teens pick with that cash incentive. Paying for Swallow at GC and LT somewhere else could get us better than expected otherwise.

If we start trading the likes of Tarrant, Macmillan and Atley we may as well gut the list and start again.

No you are not wrong about our lack of midfield pace. You may pretend you were being good natured but in truth you were trying to needle. If you wanted to participate and be taken seriously then you should have posted this:

"You can have him, probably worth a second pick and we'd take it. Will be a reasonable fit given the lack of pace of Cunnington, Ziebell, Higgins and Swallow."

But you didn't post that, which shows you weren't serious in your desire to participate properly so go away. Not that I really care that much what you do TBH.

Well within the rules to trade a player and pick up some of his salary as part of the deal. Whether that trade is for picks or other players isn't relevant.

You trade contracted players, covering the cost of contract and get a better pick accordingly. Seems reasonably straight forward to me.

Look mate you're right, I misjudged the hypersensitivity - it was gentle ribbing no more than the likes of some of your posters enjoyed on our board without the abuse. Anyway enough said, I'll stay away.

I don't have one specifically but contracts would clearly be currency at the trade table. Just say Dogs came to us with pick 30 for Goldy. We say give us 20 and we pay the remainder his contract so you can spash that $800k next year to front load Bonts new contract.

No rule against that as far as I am aware, nor should there be. Thats how clubs end up paying contracts of former players. When traded there is no obligation to keep paying the contract unless there is something given in return.

Perfect example. His $300K contract that we took on is why (primarily - that and his doible reco) a pick 7 is worth pick 69 two years later.
