Apologies for any inconvenience. We will try to find a replacement.
Lindsay played 9 games in a bottom four team. A trade would be in his best interests. Swallow is in the same boat, would be a starting midfielder for Gold Coast.
Say we move on Hansen, Thomas, Swallow, Gibson and Waite we replace them with Zurhaar (upgraded), pick 4, pick 22, 37 (in exchange for Swallow from GC) and 44.What are we going to replace them with?

front load Kelly $2.8M - $3M next year and tell him to head to the PSD, let's see if Carlton can match that.
We still need to fill the cap space. Why not grab an ablett for 1 year.
That's a Rebuild. Tef ain't gonna like that. :stern lookSay we move on Hansen, Thomas, Swallow, Gibson and Waite we replace them with Zurhaar (upgraded), pick 4, pick 22, 37 (in exchange for Swallow from GC) and 44.

Seriously - Are you his dad or something. Benny is great, but no one re-negotiates an existing contract. We should extend his contract and give him a better deal, but just because we need to fill cap space does not mean we renegotiate 1 player who is already committed on our list.No - re do the contract now - lock him away and front load. The deal can take his 2018 wage into account for next year in the total deal but redo the contract now so we can front load.
Far better option than getting desperate and paying massive overs to a bunch of Joe Averages just so we can spend the cap minimum.
Last time we got desperate we ended up with Anderson - we have to avoid these sort of mistakes if we want to progress.

Eh? We got rid of boomer/dal/petrie ect. ect. to be able to secure some stars that were younger. That has failed so far, and we are in a position where we need to fill cap space. Not a chance in hell.
We may as well have kept boomer.

We can live without them. Higgins, Cunnington, Ziebell, Dumont, McDonald, Clarke, Mountford, Hrovat, Ahern, Garner and Hibberd should cover us for a year. A lot of those guys need opportunities and we're not any chance for finals next year so midfield depth isn't a priority, unearthing talent for the next finals campaign is.You would really move Swallow and Gibson on when our midfield is so skinny as it is?

This is just stupendously silly, removes options for the club on possible list improvement.
Mountford and Clarke are not flankers. Seven midfielders and a few flankers to rotate is fine.Higgins is already filling a hole, so is JZ.
Cunnington is a quality midfielder.
Dumont only gets a game in a weak side.
McDonald is a possibility.
The rest are flankers.
This is a recipe for a top 3 pick next year and no chance of a finals berth for at least the next 3 years.

Next year's top 3 is all recruiters can talk about this year so good. Reckon we'd end up with a top three pick even if we kept all the old boys.
I don't see how playing Swallow next year is going to affect our finals chances in the following years. He's close to done, never been the same after the Achilles and he's not getting any better. Gold Coast need a ball winner and off-field leadership and have about 6 picks in the top 40, it's a match made in heaven.
Fair enough. I think we should go the other direction so I won't derail it further. He is currently in our best midfield group as it currently stands.
I can't see how he doesn't stay unless we manage to improve in this area.
Anyway, this thread is becoming too delist-centric. It's supposed to be about improving our list by making additions.

mate, we need to spend 105% of the cap next year due to the latest cap rules.
if we dont land any top line recruits, we would need to reneg some contracts, to frint load them, otherwise we get a breach if cap sanctions.....
if reneging bbb contract, anf locking him in, just do it.
I'm not on top of the rules, but it seems weird to me that there is a rule requiring us to spend 105% of an increased salary cap. Can you point to where this is written?
Great. Sam Gibson is gonna earn himself a Million Dollar Contract for 2018. :stern lookover a three year period, all teams must have paid the full tpp amount.
we have paid well under 100% for the past few years, and need to make up for it.
Hence why we have a shitload more cash than others.
They could.
They have a team full of young spuds.
