Strategy Aggressive reset

He's there to clear. He does it well. Don't overlook the nuances.

As for Dumont, Miles would slaughter him. Feel free to put other names up.

We might as well delist Froggy then.

Mate, Miles is a shit truck. Find someone else to hang a reset on ffs.

If the club goes in this direction we are sitting in a barb wire canoe without paddles in the Strait of Dire holding a cordless turd polisher...

I have always held a belief that Marleys release was tied in to the Wells trade.

The Pies had a heap of young defenders they obviously deemed better and wanted to debut.

Their loss is our gain.
Agree - I always thought the same, a little deal behind the scene.

Yep Rockliff makes us stronger, but I highly doubt Miles even gets into our midfield. He's in and out of the tuggers side and don't even think he's been looked at for the back half of the season(not sure but havnt seen him)

Finishing 8th and then dropping back down due to schedule the next season isn't being aggressive, it's being stupid and setting the club up for a decade long disaster.

Im hoping like **** we can hit on Kelly. Without him it's back to the long game imho...

He's only out of the Tigers midfield because they are going hell for leather with pace.

I think some folks have lost sight of the blokes actual strengths. His 2015 season was excellent as an inside midfielder.

Check his comparison to JZ

https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy...pid2=3786&fid1=P&fopt1=2016&fid2=P&fopt2=2015

He was on par with Matt Crouch for clearances in 2016 and in front of JZ. His 2015 clearance work eclipsed Martin & Cotchin.

If we brought him in he would do at least as well as JZ does in the middle, but allows us to free up Jack to go forward. as a result we are a stronger side. He does have value for a bloke that would cost us nothing.

I don't think any increase is going to be required mate.

I'm more concerned with the club generating other draft opportunities.

No increase required? So you know we have him at season's end?

Others I would be happy with are Smith and Whitfield.

One of the reasons that Richmond currently sit in third place is that they now have players that are better than Anthony Miles.

What will another year of Waite achieve? Its the same.
Agreed!
That's why I am agreeing with aggressive reset. Blood the kids, recruit players that suit our age profile only (22-24 year olds max)

Waite should not be offered a new contract. Spitta traded if we can get something good for him. Otherwise offer 1 year. In fact I think if we don't land JK all our 28 year olds and over should try to be traded. It's not like with them in the side we are gonna push for the 8. We need good draft picks and I would rather keep blooding kids and new young talent we bring in.

We need to think long term perhaps another season dwelling bottom table will get the talent into the side to be pushing in 2-3 years time.

Port in Port, West Coast at the G, GWS in the wet at the G and Essendon. Wow wee!! Give them the flag! #lolbitchmond

I'm confident.

Whitfield, Smith & Hopper are all good but they will all require trades.

If we land JK, we need to go straight to the RFA/UFA/Fringe bargain table.

Im hoping 2 Dogs into the guts will alleviate JZ to the forward line. He has the attributes to be a good inside/outside player imo.

Mate, im not against an aggressive reset, but only if we can get the likes of a Kelly/Rockliff combo from the start to launch with. Miles meh. Stats aside, he is slow and shitty by foot. Actually should fit right in...

Rockliff would be our other clearance player in that scenario anyway, along with Ben.

It's just not missing out on Martin but I am coming around to the idea we are going to struggle for a while.

I dont think we have to struggle 'for a while'. We need Kelly. He is a top 15 player in the league and improving and in the right age bracket for our club. He is paramount if we are going to have success in the next few years imo.

So you want Higgo gone? We need to keep some talent.

hi guys first post here. should we not try and bank as many draft picks as possible this year. move on the fringe/over the hill players and develop a war chest of picks this year and next year, along with a war chest of cash to spend. And the picks dont need to be all first round picks as you nearly get as much value from later picks in the draft. https://nudges.wordpress.com/nudging-in-the-nfl-draft/ I personally feel that going after fringe players from other clubs is not a smart move. Look at the richmond example when they went for garbage players in the rookie/psd like addam maric or the taylor hunts of the world. We should get in as much youth as possible to grow and learn to play the north melbourne way. Rather then go the short term fix we should look to build a north dynasty.

So did that four eyed git come out and say "North FAILED to get their man" on the footy show last night or hasn't he beaten that drum yet?

I agree.

It's either picks or trade for proven quality, nothing in between.

Sure fire way to go nowhere picking up players struggling for games at other clubs. (GWS an exception due to their levels of talent available)

I don't think we need to struggle, but I think we will.

Im losing faith a touch, I think

I havnt lost faith, but if Josh stays at GWS i will have lost faith in the reset. The rest requires at least 1 x top 20 player imo.

Snake is right, if we land Kelly, then we go hard at improving the list by other means. Im not against trading vets or players that we have an abundance of though.

I think we should at least field offers for the following:

- Goldy, Preuss, Daw
- Mullett, MacMillan, Atley
- Swallow, Anderson, Gibson, Wagner,
- Thomas

Wouldnt want to trade Preuss unless for massive overs, the rest, meh - except id want decent picks for JMac and Ats and maybe Fish.

The only one we'd get a good pick is Pruess.

Thomas, Gibbo, Anderson, Wagner no value at all

the others might get pick upgrades.

Im hoping for Kelly but I am less confident now. May as well expediate a rebuild

Since when is Port at AO easy, we also played GWS twice only lost at their ground with the last kick, as we did with the Swans, in fact the only teams that had our measure was Adelaide in Adelaide and St Kilda at Etihad but we redressed that last week, our draw was much the same as any team the reality is you play all teams once then there are only 5 teams you play twice I wouldnt call the Saints who were supposed to be finals bound or GWS easy so we were left with Freo twice losing one of these, Brisbane and Carlton both of which were fairly easy, there were teams with easier draws.

It also matters when you play teams, the Swans and Hawks were easy beats in the first 6 rounds but tough games from then on we played both when they were back to their best.

You dont finish 3rd just because of an easy draw.

I was sold on the whole sustained success concept. What you are talking about is a rebuild, and would need us to wait 3-6 years for players to get older. A reset (from what I am assuming from how we are all talking about it) is where we reconfigure the side to go again. No waiting around, just bringing in enough high end talent to complement the developing talent to be competitive.

Going down in the ladder demolishes our cash, and as a side that needs to rely in membership income above a certain threshold to remain viable, we dont have the luxury of just dumping our top end and replicating what the expansion teams do by filling it all with youth.

What we do have though is opportunism, being wise with our drafting (keeping all our top 3 picks is a good tactic), and doing what we can to stay on the pointy end by taking good senior players when they are available. Clearly there we will try shoot for the stars when we can, and sometime we can even get lucky with BFNAAKs trading to us for the love of the club (and some cash) or F/S and acadamy, but those things will only ever be cream.

Its a sound concept, if you take all your draft picks each year, and trade for opportune high end players for short term, you are bound to find yourself in the right zone, and if you play your cards right in drafting and development you could also still find yourself with a list across the age groups that is good enough to stay there. I also think this method is better suited to the paradigm of free agency.

Abeltt is a no brainer for me. I'd have him for a year - would help with the membership next year too. I see its not a popular choice, but I can't see why at the moment.
