Well Rooboy 96, it just so happens that I went & like a geek I took notes for you all.

The official proceedings we dull as expected.

Coach Pagan was called up to talk about the on field matters. He mentioned the loss of Belly but acknowledged that we did really well out of the trade. Denis pulled out a few positive comments about each recruit. Petrie might get a run this Saturday & cutearse Corey Jones needs learn more about the game but Denis sees his potential.
Pago acknowledged how great the core group of supporters are & he would like to appeal to exisiting members to go out & recruit other supporters.
He then joked about how he approached Duck at training hours earlier & asked if he was sure he was right for ths week, then went to the medicos & asked them for their opinion on his readiness, then went back to Duck & asked if he thougt he was REALLY sure.
Denis closed by urging people to get down to the rally before the game on Saturday as a show of unity.

Andrew Carter then took over & talked about General Business. It was Andy's job to explain why we made the substantial loss.
The Season 2000 Variance was as follows:
Membership/Reserved Seating $331000
Gate Receipts $580000
Sydney Dining & Corporate $208000
Merchandise $131000

While doing his best to remain politically correct, Andrew did state that, "Sydney were difficult to work with."

Our average home game attendance was 22191.
Our average away game attendance was 37218.

The Cart-man then showed a stack of statistics from the 99 Season. The AFL had not yet provided them with the 2000 stats but the board thought it was indicative anyway.

In 99, we were the 12th ranked club for Membership.
In 99, our Marketing (incl Sponsorship, VIP, Coteries, Fence Ads, Patrons & Gold Passes) put us 12th in the league, but 6th of the Victorian Clubs.
In 99, our Fundraising ranked us at equal 2nd and this has much to do with the hosting of the annual Grand Final Breakfast.
In 99, our football expenses ranked 9th. This has much to do with the club realising that to be competitive on field, we have to employ career coaches, assistant coaches.
In 99, membership & Marketing Expenses ranked 12th.
In 99, our Merchandise Income was 12th.

Our 2001 PRIORITIES
* Turn around the loss.
The club has budgetted to make a profit. This will rely on improving memberships, game receipts & merchandise figures.
* Best Leverage New Board
ie - board members networking & developing healthy (wealthy?) contacts
*Admin HQ Decision
The condition of the Arden Street Offices are considered an embarrassment. Its not viable to redevelop there. So what to do? Relocate? Stay?
*Gaming Venue Decision
They've put 8 years & a significant investment into Broady. Andy wouldn't really put his dick on the line here but would only say that they are still in negotiations with the council. Its my personal feeling that they should walk away now.
*Strategy To Secure Future
How? Looking at moving low yielding games interstate. Carter did say that he believes that the AFL is supportive of the club. The crowd errupted into a murmur fest. Carter did say that the board trusts in teh 16 Teams Statement that the AFL issued.
*Support On Field Team
Yep.
*Support Off Field Team
Our Admin head count is apparently significantly less than other clubs.

2001 REVENUE GROWTH PLAN
Membership must grow 19%
Gate receipts must improve 56%
Sponsorships need to grow 13%

HOW CAN I HELP?
Beware Campaign
Member Get Member
Merchandise - Andrew mentioned about how irked off he gets at seeing people in old Qantas guernseys. People need to update their wardrobes or face Andy's wrath.
Coteries - The board has to be pro-active in meeting with people in a financial position to help out the club
Attend Games & Take Friends
Markerting Leads - do us as supporters know anyone who can offer support in that regard?
Attend Our Functions - An assurance was issued that the Syd Barker night will not be held on a Thursday night.

Then Greg Miller talked about the Beware Campaign a little. The highlight of the night was Skinny Martyn getting up for an impromptu speech. I'll talk about that anoter time.

Thanks 35eye.

Just a note on merchandise. I tried to buy a North jumper, junior size, at the MCG early on last season, about Rd 7 and they didn't have any in stock and said they were not getting any more. I was that desperate I ended up going to K Mart I think it was. I thought the overall range at the G was a bit poor.

Not being critical, just an area that could be improved.

Yeah, I hear you Chops.

One old timer stood up when they invited questions and complained about the lack of merchandise available in the outer suburbs. He was from Frankston & he spoke of Cranbourne & Narre Warren where you can not get any North gear so why weren't they saturating these areas. He comes into town to watch the games & sees the kids in all their blue & white "regalia" and wonders why this isn't available all over.

The response was that the club prefers us to buy products from the club either in person or by mail order. That way the profits stay with the club. The Kmart stores won't produce the slow moving stock which is where we get dudded. There's something in the AFL licensing agreement that profits from those AFL approved products sold in department stores get divided up evenly & paid out to all the clubs. So the club in effect benefits from the Essendon consumers & so forth.

Another young lady stood up & objected to Russell Athletic not producing women's sizes. Miller was a bit stumped by this & suggested we recruit bigger women as members. I didn't realise he had a sense of humour.

But one point they really got serious about at the AGM is that they will improve on the merchandise front because there is plenty of money to be made there.

But as for the old timer, he was told that the Langwarrin FC have now been "branded" as Kangaroos so they certainly are pushing the name in the outer suburbs.

Can I have special dispensation to wear my 99 Premiers Polo shirt to golf on Saturdays???
