It seems to me that the club is attempting to spread the risk of sponsorship association by collecting a number of different sponsors rather than being overly reliant on one big cash donator. If the club can pull itself out of the doldrums and start performing on the field this could become a very lucrative strategy down the track.

Well done to the PAFC.

Re: No major sponsor yet?

Weird since it's not a consumer product, but probably a PR strategy to complement the carbon debate. Pretty good also since the AFL's official green energy partner has a large stake in Envestra.

Re: No major sponsor yet?

Fantastic news. Now compliment the blue flame by getting Santos as a major sponsor.
Love this, but can't see it happening. Santos already provide Port Adelaide with a lot of cash to run the Aboriginal Power Cup and other community programs. Although this doesnt boost our finances directly, it allows the club to market the club to the community and hopefully new supporters.

Well done Envestra :thumbsu:

Simply Energy was our shorts sponsor. Their three year deal would have just expired, so will they continue or does Envestra replace them?
I would have thought that short sponsorship was exclusive so Envestra would replace Simply Energy on our shorts. Simply Energy is still shown as a Premier Partner so the shorts sponsorship may have been extra on top of that.

# Memo for Forzaport = Suggest a change of title for this bumped thread. (See below.)
--------------

We now have two main sponsors owned by Hong Kong parent corporations - EnergyAustralia, owned by CLP Group (China Light & Power), and AGN, owned by Cheung Kong Holdings (Li Ka Shing).

(I discovered this for myself just now whilst researching, and the revelation may have already been made by the Club or another poster on a different thread.)

AGN - Australian Gas Networks - is the new name for Envestra, subsequent to the 100% acquisition of Envestra by the Cheung Kong empire based in Hong Kong in 2014.

http://www.scmp.com/business/compan...acquire-australian-gas-pipeline-firm-envestra

From AGN website:
In September 2014, a consortium of the three companies within the Hong Kong based Cheung Kong Group acquired all the listed shares in AGN Ltd, and in October 2014, the name of the Company was changed to Australian Gas Networks. The new name more accurately reflects the nature of the business and the national footprint over which it operates.

AGN has been appearing as a second-tier partner on our website, next to OAK.

Li Ka Shing is one of the Power Brokers of the world (pun intended) who started out in the 1950s making plastic flowers, borrowed a little money from his father-in-law and started investing in property.
He now runs the Cheung Kong (Long River) and the Hutchison Whampoa corporate empires.
One of his portfolio of subsidiaries is Hongkong Electric Co. Ltd. (HEC) the smaller of the two franchised power utilities in Hong Kong, the larger being CLP.

This extra synergy with the 'Power' theme makes it unlikely that we'll be changing names any time this millennium.

Li Ka Shing - I hope that means La Ka Ching in the long run for us.

I just double checked and he owns 51% of SA Power Networks the old ETSA Utilities and owns poles and wires in the network via 2 Bahamas based companies. I dont think he pays any Oz income tax on his share of profits and SA Power Networks dont pay any tax because the way its set up as a partnership than a company. He's worth a lazy $36 bil last year. 15th richest in the world.

@Lockhardt Road do you reckon some of those tax free $$$ derived from SA can be plowed back via sponsorship of South China AFL and Team China? Pick up the tab for Team China to fly to Oz for the next International Cup?
I'll give him a call, REH. No problem.
Get ready for this to happen during the pre-match on Sunday.
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's our secret Supersponsor...

So are the relevant people having a conversation with him or his people? He might need to be seen to be doing a bit of philanthropy.

The ATO was chasing him for $776mil as reported October 2013
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/bus...aire-li-ka-shing/story-e6frg8zx-1226731907836

August 2014 he buys Envestra for $2.37bil and 14,000 mile of gas pipeline
http://www.businessspectator.com.au...237-billion-deal-australian-pipeline-operator

And the week before the NSW elections in March the SMH reported he will be a front runner to buy the NSW electricity assets when privatised by Mike Baird.
http://www.smh.com.au/business/comm...-may-distort-power-sales-20150323-1m4w52.html

Li Ka-shing and Spark Infrastructure – both big players in the Victorian and South Australian electricity markets – have been sued by the Australian Taxation Office. So avid a tax minimiser is Asia's richest man that he is now shifting his $30 billion business empire from Hong Kong to the Cayman Islands. The taxes are too high in Hong Kong apparently.

I understand the NSW power grids are being divided into three sectors when bids for 99-year leases are invited. Consortia for each sector may well include Li Ka Shing interests under different names, but I believe Spark itself can only win one out of three.

The crux of the last few posts on this thread is that, yes, our 'relevant people' would indeed be smart to be in conversation with AGN with regard to them gaining face by getting more deeply involved in the Club's community programmes and, considering they are existing partners, raising their status level in our partnership portfolio, and/or adopting a tailor-made role package.
