Mentone Grammar to wear black arm bands in respect to the penninsula teather who passed away earlier in the week. A great sign of respect here from mentone in what should be a great match against penninsula. A grudge match it will be. Any thoughts on who will be the winners?

Open your eyes Ivanhoe, Assumption College Kilmore has survived year after year on history and tradition alone. No player has ever been "payed" to wear the Dark and Light Blue. It is every boys dream who attends ACK to one day represent the First XVIII on the hallowed turf of the Carroll Oval, often described as the graveyard. In 50 years of competing in the AGSV Assumption has lost only 12 games here. In the 50 years of AGS affiliation the Dark and Light Blues have won 35 premierships.

mg07 i hear out of mentone through sources on others forums that mentone will be without key players in capt. smith cameron, mcmahon and rowlands this week v penninsula due to the school allowing these players to attend a sandringham dragons camp. Could you please fill me in on these outs.

your arguments are becoming very very humorous... actually they began with extreme humour with the "Assumption don't pay to attract players to the school"...

believe what you want my simple minded, monotonous fiend but you are in a very very, i cant stress the very enough, blind minority that actually believe this...

In fact I think you could liken Assumption to a Cult... they seem to fit the mould of this description... http://www.leaderu.com/common/cults.html
1. attract the masses with promises (ie: money, laptops, free accomodation)...
2. feed the dribble about how grand the "cult" is...
3. Then once they escape (completion of VCE) they never ever return to represent the the cult

good work by the Mentone boys, good sign of respect...:thumbsu:

I'll add never had a problem with their blokes, generally really good blokes and back in my day there was some good battles between Iva and Men :thumbsu:

ACK Players never return to their old school?, every year old boys return to take the first XVII on early in the season. At all games, be it in Melbourne or at Kilmore you will see former players from all different eras supporting the dark and light blues.

assumption only get near pegs cos they have the whole of northern victoria to poach from. jamie sheehan is a legend tho, came and played some cricket in the city this yr with us funny bloke

what is with your obsession with Assumption?? I finished in '04 and to my knowledge there was no one on a scholarship.

There is a huge influx of boarders in year 10 and 11 who come manly from country victoria and nsw to complete their vce. Also a big amount from surrounding school such as Seymour Tech and Broadford High School.

I don't know why we haven't created an amutures team, but i think it is because ACK used to be soley a boarding school until about 30 years ago.

Also your comment regarding the lack of passion of the players is a complete joke, i've played footy at a few clubs and nothing compares to ACK in regards to comradery and passion, we had about 45 blokes show up for an old collegians game ffs.

You are obviously bitter towards Assumption, probably because a few hidings you copped on the footy field.

marcellin wouldn't, mainly because as a catholic school, they don't offer scholarships, and their fees are nowhere near private schools, meaning their ability to offer a prestigious education (and that would mean enough from a parents point of view) is checked by other wealthier schools in the region.

i think marcellin just have a large enough student base to draw on to find enough good players. and on the issue of schools like ivanhoe, who can, but choose not to issue scholarships, i take my hat off to them for using what they have.

i totally agree with hoerhay, yr 10's last yr dominated except with the one loss against PEGS who cheat by giving out scholarships.

might be true, however this yr Camberwell's yr 10 team will beat Marcellin convincingly. Beat them in the 9a's last yr also.
Camberwell will struggle against Marcellin in firsts though...really dont have any big players, with their 6'5" ruckman having dropped out...
will be good in 2010..
thoughts?...

i know for fact as one of my mates went ivanhoe on a SCHOLARSHIP in 2007.... just to let you know your wrong. Assumption is the only school who don't give out scholarships so get ya facts right buddy.....

ok i could be wrong, but im pretty sure as far as giving out scholarships for football goes, the only schools that really do it are pegs, peninsula- what ive heard, and yarra (i think those blokes in yr 11 are all on scholarships?)
like thesquirrel said, i think marcellin just have a really good team and attract alot of good footballers without offering scholarships, i dont know enough about assumption, but with a reputation like theirs it seems reasonable that many good footballers from northern victoria that want to make it would go there even without the offer of scholarship, but maybe some are given out i couldnt say.
for all the others teams camberwell mentone ivanhoe trinity maybe every couple of years a scholarship is given or sumthing but they dont fill their teams with scholarship players so if assumption doesnt offer them, they arent the only school that doesnt

I have said it once and will say it again, Assumption College does not give scholarships, be it sporting or academic. The schools reputation plays a big part on students coming from near and far to attend this school.

haha comical... your little friend would of been on a either an academic or all round excellence scholarship. Scholarships at Ivanhoe are ONLY handed out after an aptitude test is conducted. The only other way is if they possess all round excellence and this would have to be proven by say the selection in a state sporting squad along with excessive talent in say music or exceptional academic results. Ivanhoe scholarships are never handed out for football and football, or any sport for that matter alone.

As for a beef with assumption i dont really give a toss... there is no beef, I just cant believe how naive some of you young muppets are in thinking that Assumption dont go and poach young footballers...

As for the "passion and pride" one, or even half a dozen return exhibition games a year is not what I was referring too. I was quite clear on that, constantly directing your attention to the fact that Assumption once had a VAFA side only for it to fold (merge) due to lack of numbers. Returns from certain celebrities to play exhibition matches or what ever is being described above does not mean that there is plenty of ongoing "passion and pride". Evident on going "passion and pride" would of saved Assumptions VAFA side yet once the money from their scholarships dry up at the conclusion of year 12 they head off to the highest bidder in search of coin.

As for First XVIII game I saw today... I only managed to catch a half of the Trinity and Ivanhoe match today primely due to a bottle of red wine last night...

Trinity are a good side. They move the ball very very well (unlike their VAFA side who were appalling today at Chelsworth). Couple of solid players in their side... number 18 and 8 (?) their main lynch pin is number 22. They seriously lack a ruckman and were exploited in that department today by Ivanhoe and were smashed in the center clearances. Their backline was very strong and their mid fielders pushed back quite well to help out.

I think their big ground was an advantage and a smaller ground would hamper their run a bit. Having not seen ass, marc and pegs this year I dont know how they will take it up to them but I would think they would give those sides a fair crack!
