I was walking past Leigh Matthews' office last week when he was meeting with Aish ...

Aish: "G'Day Leigh, got a moment for a chat?"

Matthews: "Sure, what's this about?"

Aish: "I'm looking for a bit of career advice"

Matthews: "What kind of advice?"

Aish: "Well, I've always looked up to you and seen you as a mentor"

Matthews: "Oh, happy to help you in any way I can"

Aish: "Well, I'd really like to be like you Leigh, to achieve what you've achieved"

Matthews: "Well, it took a little bit of hard work and a lot of luck"

Aish: "But there's something that I really admire about you Leigh, a special something that you've achieved, and I really really want that for myself, more than anything in this world"

Matthews: "What's that James?"

Aish: "Help win a Premiership for Collingwood :D "

Matthews:
**** Mathews I have lost any respect I had left for the man. Obviously being a premiership coach of our great club means **** to him these days.

To be fair to him ...

... only one of his eight Premierships was with us

I wish future pick trading had been in last year.

Imagine the Lions losing pick 5, pick 2 and Aish all within the space of 12 months. Lions supporters would be marching on their headquarters. All 15 of them.

The more I ponder Matthews comments the more I wonder at the manoeuvring going on behind the scenes.

I just can't shake the feeling that it's a pre-emptive strike at attempting to get a priory pick post 2016. They play this card the AFL and AFLPA step in and say we can't have this because there could be ramifications for us if you deny a trade path completely.

The Lions then cave on a deal, but in the process build up credits with the AFL when they go begging for scraps in 12 months time. As long as we don't completely low ball them a deal will get done so I'm just interested to see how far into the trade period we get until the wheel turns on it.

I hope Aish walks to the PSD,
we say we didn't want him anyway,
no one else touches him,
he walks through unpicked
He retires
We then draft him ad a rookie on min wages

Oh to dream :)

It's possible but I honestly don't think they'll do so poorly next year. Their list isn't anywhere near as poor as Carlton or Essendon and a few others could finish below them.

Sorry, Leigh was fantastic for us, he was our second best ever coach, after Mr McHale.
Leigh is a great giant of the game.
He says anything, wether i lie it or not, it is worthy nonetheless.

They have an ace up there sleeve though. LEPPO!

Seriously though they're no worse than Carlton post 2014 and if they start poorly once things look dire for him they'll capitulate, IMO. Plus they're set to lose Luenberger, Redden and Adcock on top of Aish.

One things for sure I'm glad I got them completely wrong entering 2015!!

I completely understand Brisbane not wanting to get reamed again in a trade but coming out and blatantly refusing to trade before even knowing what is on the table just shows how badly that club is run. Surely even their supporters would won't a trade looked at first? If they feel they are getting screwed (like we will with Freeman) by all means send him to the draft, but you have to have some common sense.

They're basically telling every kid in the country that if you come to us you're stuck here or you'll go back in the draft again. Doesn't exactly scream great environment.

Really does go to show that without a $1m salary cap advantage they are the most irrelevant excuse for a football club going around.

What's worse for them is that they will trade for him, Aish will end up with us and they will come out looking even weaker.. They will say 'our hardline stance got us fair value for him' but the truth is it makes no difference to what we'll offer (not dissimilar to our stupid statement on Beams last year).

Ahem, now its 14 left, one old timer has gone back to khazakstan to live out his days

Hey Brisbane. Sucked in campaigners!

I do find it rather amusing that the lions thought they could offer a contracted best and fairest winning, premiership all australian top ten mid collingwood player a contract in the middle of a season and conspire to get it done... and not expect payback. I don't care if we get aish or not as long as brisbane lose him. then we offer their next top ten pick the same deal and continually watch them walk to the draft. :)

Moral to the story? Never mess with Eddie.

Didnt he promise to raid Fremantle a few years ago if they managed to steal Clokey from us?

The man always delivers.

Ah the good old karma bears.

If he has nominated us, he is as good as ours. Players and their managers dont nominate clubs without knowing they can get there, in this day and age.

People may bring up nick stevens but that was a different era.
