I understand the sediment but I don't quite understand where the bad bridge with Brisbane comes from. I generally think we gave it pretty easy with them last year RE:Beams. Yes we played hard ball. As you would for a contracted player who was your second best player and in the end they got him for a steal. If it was this year and not last wed be taking pick 2 to the draft table as well as pick 5 last year for beams.I'd err on the side of doing the leg work.
From my perspective our club currently has what you'd deem a terse relationship, at best, with 3 of the 4 northern clubs (at least it seems so from the outside). Yes we want our club to do well out of the deal and there supporters are about as useful as a hat full of arseholes, but I don't think it's healthy to be in the position we currently seem to be.
At the end of the day I'm happy to give Brisbane the win on this one to potentially mend a few bridges. You sometimes have to lose a few battles to win a war (the overall betterment of our club) and I'm happy for this to be one of those battles.
As for targeting Aish, it would be irresponsible for us not to enquire about his availability such is player movement nowadays. So you can't be suggesting we back out of the Aish deal because they are inept at creating an environment that people want to stay in?
If we aren't backing out, and it may be biased, but I think compared to others and despite public perception we're generally good traders who try and compensate fairly. As it is with the Aish deal we have done everything they ask for. Second rounder and a player? Two second rounders? Now they want a second and a future which we will work on today. It's not like we're trying to palm off Gault and a third for Aish.
