any chance this will come out on ps3?
Nope, Microsoft are the one's who funded the title.

So it would be akin to an Uncharted, God of War, Killzone coming to the 360 (although not the same circumstances as Remedy are still independent - as opposed to those 3 titles being developed by Sony's first party developers - they just entered an exclusive deal with Microsoft).

Microsoft have the option to fund a sequel which Remedy are all for, but they seem to be holding off a bit. Understandable when the title was in development for 5 years on 2 platforms and hasn't really returned huge numbers that would satisfy the money spent on it all, not to mention the cutting back from 2 platforms to 1 that would've cut even more sales away (as well as the huge marketing campaign involving the live action film as well). AW would have to sell at least a million more fairly quickly for Microsoft to want to fund the 2nd title.

Are there any reasons given for poor sales?

If there is one, it would have to be not enough exposure. From what's being said in this thread, there's nothing wrong with the game, you guys are loving it, so it not the product that's letting them down, but the marketing. I think Microsoft didn't do a good enough job advertising it because I never saw or heard anything apart from visiting gaming websites or video game stores.

I think a great contrast to this is Red Dead Redemption. Rockstar did a great job putting this game everywhere and it paid off for them in the end. They built a big community around it and showed what the game could do and what it was all about to everyone, which is something I feel Microsoft and Remedy didn't do for Alan Wake.

Yeah, were my first thoughts as well being a marketing major. Real pity if it affects the possibility of a sequel. Hopefully it can become a bit of a cult classic over the next year or two, especially as the price drops.

2 reasons IMO

1. the lengthy ongoing delays turned A LOT of people away. Heaps of people just lost interest

2. It's Survival Horror which is not the # 1 genre, it's very love or hate

Yep, those are also very valid reasons.

Although it is a very niche market, Resident Evil 5 did go on to sell over 5 million. But that is a different game, it's more action horror than survival and it's multiplatform. The point is, if they get everything right, there's no reason why they shouldn't be able to sell heaps. There market's there and people want it, even if it is smaller than others.

Res 5 also had co-op and multiplayer which helps sales. People are hesitant to pay full price for a game that lasts only ten hours. That's why I haven't bought it yet

Resident Evil 5 have a long history, time to gather a loyal fan base, movies to spread the name, multiplatform, more action orientated, co-op etc. etc.

I know a stack of people who played # 5 as their 1st resi experience and despised it.

This would've done nothing to attract people to buy AW

Look at the sales of Siren: Blood Curse (not suggesting this is a flagship title, just comparing Survival Horror sales); Silent Hill games and so on

In fact, Resident Evil games are the only survival horror games really putting up consistent sales

The other factor is Suvival Horror is biggest (usually) in Japan, a PS3 dominated country.

Honestly, there's so much marketing potential with this game. There's so much to work with given the right budget and creative people are available.

Raise Hand, while I didn't hate it, the stupid storyline did nothing for me.

Damn i forgot about the new DLC i traded Alan Wake in after finishing it a couple of times for ME2.

The DLC released yesterday (code provided with every retail copy or 560 MS points if you don't have a code)

I downloaded it alst night and had a quick run this morning. So far, it's utterly brilliant IMO. They seem to have taken the eerie feeling and twisted world to another level.

Only played it for about 20 mins, I'll post more thoughts once I complete it

finished it last night. I wanted to do an episode a night but I was too engrossed in the whole thing so I did the last two back to back

about the ending... um...yeah. Hopefully the DLC will give some clarity because I have no idea WTF happened

The DLC picks up from the end

Damn, regret selling the game. Wish there was a way you could play DLC without the disk.

Same here i was the same thinking last night. I might have to go buy it again play the new dlc and when thats finished return it in the seven days and get something else.

not worth buying the game again for this DLC IMO. It's only about an hour and theres no real story progression
