Today I'm going to spend time looking at some team and individual stats.

Firstly Patch Adams:

21 of his last 34 games under 20 touches and most well under.

22 of his last 34 he's gone without a goal.

6 goals in 14 games this year.

How is he an automatic selection?

Last night:
13 players had under 10 kicks last night. 9 of them had 6 or under.

18 players had 2 marks or less for the entire game.

and to think if Drew had gone for goal, we could have still one....
im actually glad we lost, as the stats you have just showed, would have been covered up by "the couragous comeback" bullshit!

How was he even given a contract extension?

True. But given how inept his attempt to pass was, it's unlikely he would have kicked the goal.

LT's stats were 10 kicks, 4hb, 2 marks and a goal, thought he was well down but didn't think he was a liability.
Fair enough. Saw him very loosely man a mark and allow his man a free run and also gain possession only to make no play and look for the in the back free a couple of times.

Wasteful actions that don't show up on a stats sheet but get your point, statistically he did ok.

Sheesh they are some extraordinarily bad stats for senior players, Goldy in particular. I'm not saying we need I to trade him but I certainly understand the skeptic view that a 2nd stringer could have a similar output for far less $$, allowing it to be spent elsewhere. Cue apologists.

In 14 games Bastinac has only 3 times had 20+ disposals. (27, 26 and 22). His other 11 games have produced 20, 19, 18, 17, 16, 16, 15, 15, 14, 12 and 2 as sub. In the same 14 games he has 8 goals and laid only 46 tackles.

Patch has had 29, 21, 21, 21, 21, 19, 18, 17, 16, 14, 14, 13, 12 and 11, with 54 tackles and 6 goals.

Basti's last 4 games: 19, 18, 15 and 17 disp, 9 tackles, 3 goals.
Patch's last 4 games: 13, 14, 11 and 12 disp, 12 tackles, 0 goals.

Something has to change.

Stats are a guide, but not the be all and end all. Basti has spent time forward which would lower the numbers a bit. His problem is is consistency of attack of the contest. There is something to work with. That spoil running back with the flight is evidence of that.

Patch was just woeful last night. Don't need stats for that!

The Goldy stats are real guide to where he's at. A one trick pony.

Mullett - zero tackles as a key outside defender. Kick stats padded by kick outs - how many in the field of play - F@#$ all. No tank - lost count of the number of times I've seen him (and some mates) give up the chase this year and last year. Think of when you last saw one of these guys in a solid chase down. Thats why the tackles get run through - no intent, poor effort, no momentum and crap tackle - goal..
The problem is that too many of our defenders - e.g. mullet, firitto, atley and even thompson (at times) are too focused on getting on the end of it rather than defending - huge issue. L Mac is the only one who can defend a bit and attack - an indictment on the others. Thompson has been a gun but when the other side take him out of play and he's not on the big forward he looks a little lost at the moment.

In the majority of the cases mentioned, stats don't lie.

Based on the number of players who are not contributing each week, we should be blown away in matches. We have eliminated the 80+point smashings that we used to suffer, but it feels like a smashing when you are watching because we go for such long periods of not getting the ball.

The most alarming thing is you can see it, I can see it and you would assume the coaching staff can see it but the same shit keeps happening. One or two changes and that's it. That to me is the most alarming thing. The bolded it is the fact we have problems and under performing players but VFL form is not rewarded. Jacobs should have been in a few weeks ago and Dumont IMO. And even Wood. Black has been shite most of the year

Pass was shit cause he was caught in two minds, go for goal or pass. His first instinct as a forward should have been the big sticks

Yeah I dont know what Petrie was thinking, he could have put us in front.

Not a stat but how bad have we been all year at over committing to a tackle only to be stepped around.
Agreed I have seen this happen too much.

I want to know how we can tackle like men possessed against West Coast and then go back to the soft rubbish straight afterwards.
Because we needed to save face after that out of character Geelong game.

This is the frustrating part, this group can do it, but only when they need to save face. Atm they're happy just looking the part.

I dont like singling out players, but simply to highlight the issue - anyone remember Well's super lazy arse effort in one game? Then immediately played like a man possessed? Chasing, tackling, going in hard like we all know he's capable of - yep we were all stoked to finally see that Wells back! He played bloody well after that poor effort, but it makes you wonder - why.

We even had posts bagging Carey, about his article on a few of our players faking ect. Anyone think Carey performed to save face, think he took a backward step? HELL NO!! - he brought his A game no matter what and demanded the same of anyone playing under him.

North players - Its a gawd damn war, every week! The opposition would have NO problem destroying you on the field, they'd happily show you up as someone that shouldn't be out there, effectively ending your career - they'd do it in a heart beat. Why play about with them, why take the foot off the throat, why go half asrsed until you need to save face? You can not and will not ever be a top 4 team, contender or premiership side until that changes! We have the players, we have the skills, we need the killer ruthless instinct every quarter of every game!
