News Alberton Oval Redevelopment

Thebarton will be good for the Crows. It'll force them to become more community minded as they'll need to work with a heap of different groups to make it work.

IMO it's the worst case scenario for us.
Maybe, but being 'community minded' can only get you so far. We're community minded but can't win premierships because of our fraudulent coach, with a fan base now at the end of its tether.

Nah, it’ll just confirm they are the SANFL, worst outcome for them if they truly wanted independence.
Worst case for us would have been Brompton, near the city, fully independent and modern.

Anyway, I’m off to see them all backflip to ‘Thebarton was always the best option 😂’.

Always at long odds at Brompton when the plan was to not get rid of the waste but put an oval on it

I don't thinkthey've heard the news yet over on the Tingles board - they must all be waiting for tomorrow morning's paper.

And whingeing about the fact that the SA Government awarded the contract to a Melbourne based organisation.

Completely ignoring the fact that the Crows commercial partner for their proposal was the Melbourne based developer Pelligra.

Looks like they will have to go from one construction site (West Lakes) to another (Thebarton - part of the South Road tunnel project).

And to think that this all happened while the anti-Port Treasurer Rob Lucas was in charge of the state government finances and would have been the one who put the nail in the Crows coffin for this development. Karma!
The Crows are owned by the AFL. They are a Victorian based organisation.

Lol. It's the Crows. They won't work together.

They will act entitled and get the whole community off side

Can't wait to hear old man Cornes take.

Yet another chance to cut and post that article he wrote back in 1996 about Port being traitors, getting a free ride etc. and top and tailing it with reference to this issue.

It's been at least a month now since I last read it.

The InDaily write up is pretty balanced. The sob story from Treasurer Lucas as to why he had to knock it back will bring a tear to your eye.

“I’m sure when they make public statements the Crows will be disappointed with the final decision; I saw no other reasonable decision to make,” he said.

As Treasurer of SA he should be spruiking the economic and social benefits of the proposal that was accepted rather than apologising for the Crows missing out, i.e.:

  • investing $450m over the 10-year life of the project.
  • 190 construction jobs. 730-1000 ongoing jobs.
  • Housing options for 2200 residents including 207 townhouses, 120 affordable accommodation residences, 305 market sale apartments, 200 integrated aged care apartments
  • 1.5ha of new community open space available to all (and not for priority use by a professional football club).
In the end the Crows WILL get their new clubrooms and training grounds. But just not at Brompton - a much bigger and better community focussed development will go in that space and harmful contaminants removed in the process.

SA has lost nothing from today's announcement but gained a heck of a lot.

Why the heck is our State Treasurer apologising? (rhetorical question).

I don't think much will change for them.. How would it be bad for us?

The saddest thing about this is IF the Crows bid was genuine, they really believed they were entitled to a 450 million dollar asset for about 25….ducking disgrace!

Yep.
Had to tearfully give the thumbs down to his political mate of 40 years in John "Motorola" Olsen. 😢

Must have been a massively better offer for Lucas to go against the pride of SA 😆

And remember that for all the millions of SA taxpayers money and special government contract access that Motorola was provided with under Olsen's term as Premier they folded and left SA almost 2 decades ago.

Looks like his Midas touch is continuing at West Lakes.

I got banned from the Crows Brompton thread because i told them a few months ago to not get their hopes up, as it wouldn't be in the states interest to select the Crows bid as the Crows need to build in Adelaide anyway, so by selecting a interstate developer, it will pour more money into SA than the Crows. Crows and their supporters were living in denial.

Aha, I thought there would have to be one - I must have the OP on ignore, so I can't see it. Never mind.

The Brompton redevelopment and the decision on which bid to accept for the Renewal SA land has absolutely nothin to do with the Port Adelaide Football Club. Nothing.

But count how many times PAFC is referenced in this Advertiser article about the Crows bid missing out and look at how the Advertiser editor equates SA's interests aligning with the Crows.:

Just in case they forgot to include the disclaimer:

Paul Starick is a foundation member of the Adelaide Football Corporation

Love they quoted the fan base, how great is that! a little olde suburban club from Alberton is half of what the team for all South Australian's can muster, $uck off Crows, go back to West Lakes.

Must be why they were reluctant to go the Adelaide Oval - they're way over subscribed and can't fit everyone in!

When the narrative changes to ‘Thebby was always first choice’ this will be gold!
