Would the current AFLW change rooms be given to the opposition sides when they play at Alberton since the girls would be on the other side once it’s all done?
Why? The opposition change rooms were upgraded to AFLW standard for the visiting team in 2021/22.

Currently right now they are undergoing the additions to the Alan Scott HQ to incorporate / consolidate the Women's Change Rooms into it. I assume in time for AFL season next year to minimise disruption to mens season/program. SARAH have been on site since after the last AFL minor round game. They have also recently fenced off the carpark between oval and soccer pitch to undertake the small concrete stepped seating grand stand (to replace those temp ones they put up each AFLW season). I assume once all of this is done and dusted they will knock off the Bowls Club end either end of season 26 or 27.

Artist's impressions in this article which was posted previously;

The new Kenny Hinkley Grandstand is on the left in this picture;

Is that the vacant spot on the left where they will also have the Ken Hinkley PAFC trophy cabinet ?

Any idea what the crowd capacity will be once this work is completed?

From the link above:

  • Terraced seating installed around the eastern boundary fence providing more than 1,000 additional seats, to support the growth of AFLW matches at Alberton Oval.
  • A third heritage inspired grandstand, increasing the seated capacity at Alberton Oval to more than 6,000 and overall capacity to over 10,000 to cater for the growth of AFLW and SANFL home games, and AFL pre-season games.

Having seen snaffle and women's games, this seems to be completely unnecessary, but anyway.
I would hope the club is looking to host pre-season and/or Gather Round matches because crowds aren't overflowing for any other reason.
"Build it and they will come" maybe?

If the Port girls were to play a final at Alberton against the Crows the capacity of 10,000 would sell out within hours.
Pretty sure the AO is off limits that time of year due to cricketing commitments.

Thanx, and sorry.
Should've taken the time and read that myself. :blush:

Yeah, potentially one game that may or may not eventuate.
That's if the Crows don't jump up and down about it being an unfair advantage too

I reckon it'll be a hard road for Alberton & Thebarton for that matter when the camries complete it to get Gather Round games. Norwood as crap as the ground dimensions are seem to own two fixtures purely on location & lining the pockets of the blue bloods while the Barossa seems a lock at least for awhile.
And we’d have no chance of taking the Barossa games given that presumably could only get replaced by a different regional venue. It’s a bit of a shame Norwood is locked into hosting those games too imo. Would love to see Prospect Oval get a shot as it wouldn’t be quite as crammed as Norwood, but the location isn’t the best and there might be other contenders. Those are just the only SANFL grounds I’ve been to besides Alberton.

Wouldn’t discount Prospect or Glenelg getting the games from Norwood.
Mali moving the games to the bay would earn him some votes given what the council has put the business through down there.

I think what hurts Alberton as a Gather Round venue is the lack of business’ directly impacted by the extra foot traffic. The Alberton Fish and Chip shop would thrive, but I doubt how many hotels bar the Alberton would greatly benefit from the matches there.

The Bay as mentioned may win some votes, Norwood will hold strong for the votes also.
