Hey

DO you think Port could redevelop/renovate alberton oval to play lower afl games. Max attendance of about 25K or something?

Could play sunday afternoon games or something.

What do you guys think?

Anyone got any pics of alberton oval, I cant find any on the net.

As much as I'd love to see Alberton used, it just won't happen. I was there in 1977 v Norwood when they crammed in 22,000+ and that was absolute capacity. Since then the Alan Scott HQ has gone up on the northern wing. It'd be lucky to hold 15,000 these days. Apart from the Williams and Quinn Stands it's all terraced, no seating as such (apart from the wooden benches that ring the fence), bugger all facilities and virtually no parking - the Council are very thingy about parking on the median strip on Port Rd. In the corporate AFL world the cost of upgrading would be way too much and seeing as the SANFL own the licence I'm sure they'd rather use Footy P ... oops I mean AAMI Stadium ... ;)

Maybe the odd low-attendance Wizard Cup game. Although it would be a bit embarrassing to expect 10000 to come to a match and then have to turn people away. Not much parking but the public transport is pretty close. Doubt if it would happen though. The only AFL Alberton will see are trial games.

Alberton...sadly never, except for the odd trial game maybe. But don't rule out Adelaide Oval of holding AFL games in the future. There are a few people at the SACA who have been keen to get AFL games there for years, and still do. If ever Port and the Crows have a major flare up about some issue at AAMI, don't rule out Port heading to Adelaide Oval for a few games at least, in some capacity.

With the SANFL owning both licences I highly doubt this would ever happen.

i agree scott..it is very unlikely..but stranger things have happend. The SACA would love to have AFL football at Adelaide Oval, and so would plenty of fans.
