Freo took a good ordinary forward in Tarrant and with perserverance, turned him into a quality defender. Give Silvagni a whole season of games and he will be a good KPD for us.
Agreed, tarrant was an amazing defender, wish he stayed

I just thought i'd mention - despite the loss, and the fact that Buddy got off the chain for a couple of clutch goals.. I thought that SCOS & Ibbo did an admirable job on Buddy for the majority of the day. His colours certainly weren't lowered IMO. Alex tackled hard, put his body on the line and competed fiercely which is all RTB could ask of him.

Two years later this thread's sentiments are the same, still a bloody honest toiler, he probably feels like his time is up at the club but he hasn't dropped his head in all the years he has been here. I get the feeling he just loves playing football and as long as he beats his man he's almost as content losing as winning. I hope he gets to stay on a list, preferably ours.

I bet a footballer's wage also helps with the motivation to keep playing.

Good guy but his time is up.

SCOS always deserved to be on a list. Never going to be a star and maybe fringe 22 rather than a regular starter. But he has OK skills, super courageous and never shirks a challenge or his responsibility. Combination of injury, dumb luck and poor timing has meant he's never really strung enough games to really bed down his game, otherwise there would barely be a conversation about whether he should be on our list or not.

I know we're in clear out mode, but there's a good few I'd clear before him.

Wouldn't mind keeping him as well. probably won't play any games in an injury free team, but who knows. Johnson is unknown, but I could see him call it day anytime, Dawson not getting younger as welll, A.Pearce will coming of a pretty serious leg injury, Uebergang is not yet tried at AFL level and Collins is reasonably inexperienced. Add a suspension like atm and he could be badly needed at times. And we don't need to address our taller backs during this trade period which we can't afford since we need to address holes pretty much everywhere else....

Well done Alex. Thought he was quite strong yesterday.
I suspect he will remain on the list....May or may not be starting 22, but is good depth. Handy to know that if Johnno gets injured or Dawson suspended, we have him as a back up!
He is only 28 going on 29, so a few more years left yet :)

I think you mean when.

MJ is basically done, I think counting on him is folly. Dawson's game is borderline useful in the modern game, though I'd still have him in certain games like the one we just played. AP might be tracking OK now, but how well is he going to start the year is still unknown.

Further, SCOS would have very little to no trade value. With that in mind, he's is good value for us right now.

Totally agree with Johnno assessment. He will be like McPharlin when he played first half of 2014 & 15 and then was injured. He will be going onto 32 has only lasted 5 games into 2016 and missed a fair amount of 2015. Alex S is required as cover if not in 22.Actually with Johnno's last injury re Achilles sheath he may even decide to pull the pin?

I reckon there's a possibility Jonno will pull the pin in the last game, he can at least do a lap of honour ala Grover before the game.

He should.

Love MJ, even in the old 'pointing days' I still rated him when others some were walking him out the door, but AFL footy is brutal on the body and if it's not going to do it, it's not going to do it and it's just best for all he calls it quits. Obviously we don't have knowledge that he and the club do so you've got to defer to that, but it's got to be in their thinking given where the team is at etc.

If he has little value to offer other clubs then keep him as backup for sure - absolutely love the way he goes about it. Not much beats an honest trier whose effort levels know no bounds.

Can see him reaching the coveted 100 games for us if he keeps it up - especially as there are serious questions marks over Johnson for the future (he wants to play at the new stadium though) and of course whether Pearce will be 100% ready at the start of next season. Plus can give Collins a chance to take a lesser forward and develop, or have a break at Peel from time to time. It would still be a stretch, however, but I think he has it in him

Lets wait and see the changes to our strength and conditioning dept for next year first. If there are no changes, then yes he most definitely should.

Absolutely agree...Just didnt want to use the word "when"....I am a natural at jinxing things ;) (See previous posts about my Dockers jumper that is 100% responsible for all of this season :()!!

Our defence next year will/should be led by Alex P and Alex S. MJ would be nice as the third tall if available with injury. Collins will be the back up or alternative 3rd tall and Dawson should just be WAFL depth - would only play him if we have a particularly tall forward/ruck player we need to cover and Pearce is injured and say farewell to him at the end of 2017. Also hoping Hurley comes along to fill MJs role by the end of next year with a good pre-season and clear run without injury. SNOS has been cruelled by injury at the wrong moments and RTB's love of Dawson but his time has come for a few years at least, SNOS is better in every respect to Dawson except for a bit of height against the absolute tall players.

The umpires always smash him for some reason. Maybe he is too honest and wears a look of guilt if he is being a bit naughty.
Maybe he goes too hard at the wrong time. Maybe it's the purple jumper.
White maggots. Lol

Didn't mind Alex's run from defence when he intercepted the ball twice. Dawson wouldve held up play and handballed it off. He'll always be depth but it probably doesn't hurt keeping him as depth and offering a one year contract. Alex seems pretty happy with that.

We should be ballsy and cut one of Johnson, Dawson or silvagni this year. 3 blokes over 30 in the same position going for 1 spot doesn't compute.

But MJ is the best of them and has another year left on his contract, Dawson I would happily cut but also has another year left. Only SNOS is out of contract and he has shown he should not be the one to go and will cost peanuts to keep. I would be happy telling Dawson he will have limited opportunities and could look elsewhere but would any club take him in a trade? Maybe Hawthorn will take him back! :drunk:
