much as it hurts me to say this, IN THEIR PRIME, tyson would beat ali.
mind you tyson was only in his prime for around 2-3 years.
tyson was the most punishing and destructive fighter, IN HIS PRIME, that i've ever seen.
ali of course, over their careers, was the greatest.

Gonna have to go with Ali. I've seen footage of his fights and he destroyed opponents. Tyson would get hungry in the fight and try and bite Ali.

hahahahaha

Ali would cut Tyson to shreds. Jab is too good and his chin would hold up.

Tyson barely makes the top 10 HW all time so this fantasy matchup is flawed.

If you asked who I like better I'd have no trouble picking Tyson. Ali is a better fighter, but Tyson is by far the most exciting to watch so I would pick him solely because of that. Ali was just a elite boxer that was perhaps the best however Tyson blew my mind in the manner he destroyed weaker opponents and that alone transcends any fantasy match up or goat list.

Would Ali have ever lost to James Douglas?

Tyson was a force of nature and watching him fight in his prime was awesome.

But Ali would have beaten him.

great point:thumbsu:

looking back, too hard to pick. i saw tyson fight live on tv when he was in his prime and got caught up in the hype etc.
only saw ali on tapes and replays but obviously would have been bigger and over a longer time.

some more to throw in the mix:
  • joe louis - the brown bomber- reigning champ for nearly 12 straight years until defeated by the great...
  • rocky marciano - 49 wins, 43 k/o's, retired undefeated, including 13 fights in 1 year alone.
many variations to the greatest, if we get back to the original question of those in their prime, let's say an ali who beat the unbeatable liston and a tyson who defeated michael spinks in 1 1/2 minutes (undefeated up until that fight), who the hell are we to say who was the most damaging:confused:

Tyson's boxing ability is greatly overshadowed by his persona IMO, but I'd honestly have to say that in his prime, Tyson was a beast like no other and would have smashed seven shade of shits out of Ali. :thumbsu:

Ali was the complete boxer, he would have taken Tyson to school and embarrassed him.

Tyson never got to fight anyone as good as Foreman

Tyson was a good fighter in a time where in his prime the division was a bit lean

Remember as well people were robbed of 4 years of Ali, who was pretty much in his Prime, where he could not fight

Ali was one of the top 3 boxers of all time. Tyson would be lucky to break top 10 in heavyweights, Destructive power yes, but that doesnt make a great boxer

In saying that, i dont think where was a more powerful boxer then Tyson however

If Tyson had the drive Ali had it would be a different result. The speed and power of that man had untapped potential. Lazy ****.

Ali devised ways to beat fighters. Tyson didn't have that mental aspect.

^^^^
Which is why ill never say he was one of the greatest boxers ever

He's basically a monster they picked up on the street, absolutly smashed the hobo's don king would feed to him, however going against lewis and co, he was made to look ordinary, When he had to fight great boxers.

FFS people, Ali went 8 rounds being pounded by George Foreman, who was the Tyson of his day. No question, Ali would win.

this.

all Tyson did in his prime was beat up on powder puffs.

the era Ali fought in was much better.

This topic was covered in the movie, Welcome To The Jungle, with Dwayne Johnson believing Ali would win.

Ali Vs. The Rock? Now there's a question, Ali's elite boxing vs. the power of the Rock's 'People's Elbow' Hmmmmmmm.

absolute rubbish, trevor berbick and michael spinks are not close to hobo's. If it is so easy to smash some hobo's I would like you go and unite the heavyweight belts at the tender age of 20.
