Watch the first two episodes - fantastic.

From the trailers I didn't get the impression that this was going to movie level production.

First ten minutes wouldn't feel out of place against the first movie. Really did a great job there.

Enjoyed the first episode, surprised in a good way at the storyline, confident now it'll be a worthwhile addition to the Alien universe.

Watched the first ep, enjoyed it. Really like the lead actress. The sets and aesthetics are on point.

If I have a criticism, it's not a slow burn like the original movie, no build up to the xeno, it jumps in straight away which probably appeals to the modern audience I guess, definitely more of the style of Romulus

A tadpole, huh?

I thought it was DNA that they transferred. That shouldn't take hours to swim into a host.

Probably doesn't really count as a retcon, but even if it did, I think they stated not everything is going to line up with the movie lore.

It is the second stage in the Xenomorph's life cycle, and exists solely to implant a Chestburster within a living host creature via their mouth. As such, it has no real offensive capabilities (beyond an ability to spit acid, which is generally only used to gain access to hosts and not for attack)[5][6] and must rely on stealth, surprise or their victims being previously immobilized by an attacker to achieve implantation.

Yeah actually just forgot about the

embryo/tadpole/larva

that is in the huggers and for whatever reason was thinking it was just dna that the huggers inject into people

Same - will do 2 episodes this week and two next week

I think its a deliberate choice to model the first movie ship scenes and it works

Of the 2 tonight they certainly capture the darkness and claustrophobia of the franchise

Some call backs to the whole series and an additional Lost Boys reference

There are the usual horror tropes ie monsters crossing hallways after you pass by , mosnters crawling out of sightline just as you turn the corner and background monsters only the viewer can see

There is tension and this brings an element to it. Sure there is some confusion but I will let it play out and see if they can get themselves out of trouble

9/10

That link says the Chestburster is not implanted into the host as an embryo but is akin to a cancerous growth. The Facehugger injects a fluid into the host organism's chest cavity which causes a restructuring of the host's cells, building the Chestburster from the host's own biological material.

The tadpole is a change from that.

I just realised they put the tadpole into Joe's lung that was removed!

I don't really care to be honest.
