I believe the universe is full of life. We just haven't found it yet. Or don't even know what to look for.

Will say that in the last 20 twenty years I've noticed a huge shift in people's belief, and even expressed scientific voice, going from, "nah, it's just us out here, to people expressing the absurdity, given the size of the universe, that we are alone."

i went to the adler planetarium last year and saw these two shows:

http://www.adlerplanetarium.org/shows/cosmic-wonder
http://www.adlerplanetarium.org/shows/undiscovered-worlds

was pretty mind blowing. i went from 'there might be life' to 'yeah, most definitely life out there' in the space of an afternoon.

So, I guess if we're talking aliens, it might be worth looking at a couple of the best documented and most well known close encounters of the third kind. Yep, coming face to face with something from another world/dimension. It's still considered one of the best cases, given the witness and the physical evidence found at the scene.

The Zamora Incident.

From Wiki:

The Lonnie Zamora incident was a UFO close encounter of the third kind which occurred on Friday, April 24, 1964, at about 5:50 p.m., on the southern outskirts of Socorro, New Mexico. Several primary witnesses emerged to report stages and aspects of the event, which included the craft's approach, din, conspicuous flame, and physical evidence left behind immediately afterward. It was however Lonnie Zamora, a Socorro police officer who was on duty at the time, who came closest to the object and provided the most prolonged and comprehensive account. Some physical trace evidence left behind--burned vegetation and soil, ground landing impressions, and metal scrapings on a broken rock in one of the impressions--was subsequently observed and analyzed by investigators for the military, law enforcement, and civilian UFO groups.

Love that one.

Another experimental craft no doubt.
Weather balloon.

I find it impossible that the universe does not house other intelligent life.

I most certainly believe.

To go further
To believe we are the only life let alone intelligent life in the whole impossibly vast and never ending universe is so ignorant, only a species with a vast inferiority complex could even entertain this idea
The universe will be teeming with life, we just don't have the technology to open our eyes nor will to accept we are not the be all and end all

I don't think it's really an inferiority complex, but more of a selfishness.

Look at wider humanity, we have all these religions who tell us all about how important we are singularly, how everything we do is part of some devine plan, that we are all special.

Meanwhile, we're destroying forests, exterminating species of animals, and taking more than we need....all because we think we are the most important thing on this planet.

It's no real surprise that a species as ignorant and selfish as our own struggles to comprehend that there could be life elsewhere.

We're a long time from Galileo, yet we're still struggling the concept that we are not the centre of the universe.

Only the other week as I travelled to Adelaide via the back of freight train overnight, I got a good view of the stars - Pitch black country dark, and as the train came around bends, the stars would rotate around.. It was pretty cool to watch..

At one stage though, there were these three lights, that otherwise looked like stars, but we travelling all over the place and erradictly. They weren't shooting stars, and I would've thought satellites would have a more predictable, linear course.

No idea what they were. Not saying they were UFOs, but it was certainly weird to watch them. They were in my view for about 45 or so seconds, and then all three dissapeared at the same time

Not so much aliens, because I mean, what are aliens? It's just a name we've come up with. I do, however believe there is life elsewhere other than earth, there must be.

I find that most of the 'Older generation' don't believe in Aliens or UFO's or just try to shove it away like it isn't an important nor interesting matter. I mean I've tried reasoning with my dad and uncle (both in mid 50s) about UFO's and Aliens but they always try to find a 'reasonable' explanation about everything. ****, I even joked one day with them telling them that "One day you could be abducted and yet you'll still try and find a 'logical' explanation.

There is estimated to be 100-200 billion planets in our Milky Way Galaxy alone.
The amount of planets in the Universe would be more than we can count.

Hopefully we can make contact in the next 60-80 years :thumbsu:

I swear some people would love to believe our world is flat and is all there is.

If i said anything about Aliens to my dad he would act like i was talking about fairlytales and completely shut me out.
Some people i know just don't want to hear it, some don't even like talking about outer space as it ''scares them''

This is on the stone coffin lid of Pakal, a Mayan king who lived and died in Palenque in southern Mexico. He died in 683 AD/CE (I think I'll finally adapt the term 'Common Era' rather than persisting with 'anno domini' when I talk about history).

Looks just like a rocket ship, doesn't it?

We don't though. Over half of Americans (who many believe are overly religious and ignorant) believe in the existence of aliens.
They also believe in Demons, Witches, Bigfoot and their God given right to kill another human.

As a general rule, they are not the sharpest of tools.

Depnds on what you define as intelligent life. There's no doubt there's lots of forms of intelligent life on Earth - dolphins and chimps/bonobos being the most obvious examples.

And I think we are only just beginning to understand how smart they are.

But they ain't never gonna build a spaceship.

Then there is what I like to call the Zheng He factor. The Chinese had the knowledge of Europe etc and the means to get there with Zheng's fleet, but the Emperor decided that the mere barbarians couldn't possibly offer anything they needed. Maybe aliens feel the same with us.

Making contact with another intelligent life form could mean the end of the human race, no thank you.

Humans don't exactly have a good track record with meeting new races/creatures/things and living peacefully with them, aliens we contact are just as likely to be hostile as friendly.
