Thanks for that. So, do you believe in aliens and that they could visit us? I remember reading Stephen Hawking believing it could happen and that it could very well play out like when Columbus met first nation Americans - not very well.

The probability of primitive life developing on a suitable planet may be extremely low, or it may be high, but aliens intelligent enough to beam signals into space may also be smart enough to build civilization-destroying weapons like nuclear bombs, he said. More likely, he added, is that primitive life is likely to develop, but intelligent life as we know it is exceedingly rare.

?We don?t appear to have been visited by aliens,? Hawking said, adding that he discounts reports of UFOs. ?Why would they only appear to cranks and weirdoes??

Hawkings comments about columbus were somewhat tongue in cheek.

My views are that if you take a mathematical approach it's almost a certain that there is other life, but the same mathematical approach would suggest that advanced intelligent life is rare. Our planet is closer to its end than begining, for example our magnetic field has dropped 10% in the last 200 years, so the question become how advanced can you develop in that finite period of time? And we've had some lucky breaks, many of the events that have caused mass extinction in the passed have exceeded average recurrence intervals in the period of modern humans by as much as 10 fold allowing us to develop uninterrupted.

Then the other issue is that the stars and planets are all different ages, so it raises the question does this intelligent life exist in the same narrow window as ours? Now if we had the technology to travel at close to the speed of light (one day we will have), we could travel to the edge of the solar system in a week and another week to return, but while the astronauts would have only experienced 2 weeks of travel, when they return 160 years would have passed on earth. This is one reason why I dont think we have been visited, the vast distances of space make any travel essentially a permanent move, if they did come it would be to colonise.

So basically I do think aliens exist, I don't think they are visiting, and I'm not sure they have the capability.

I have a cousin thats a professor of physics and we have spoken extensively about this, I find the topic fasinating and really think we should explore space. Unfortunately there are zealots the espouse religious dogma on both sides of the issue that make fact based rational discussion increasingly difficult (not you by the way).

How freaky would it be if aliens from other planets are also humans.

This has actually crossed my mind before. It's entirely possibly. What if they were assigned to come to Earth and just cause mayhem without looking out of the ordinary??

I find that most of the 'Older generation' don't believe in Aliens or UFO's or just try to shove it away like it isn't an important nor interesting matter. I mean I've tried reasoning with my dad and uncle (both in mid 50s) about UFO's and Aliens but they always try to find a 'reasonable' explanation about everything. ****, I even joked one day with them telling them that "One day you could be abducted and yet you'll still try and find a 'logical' explanation.
Too true :thumbsu: When I was young I remember my dad telling me to 'look out' for aliens, as they might come and experiment with me in the night-absolutely terrified me!!

I definitely believe in other 'alien' life-forms, and have enjoyed reading people's views in this thread-top stuff :thumbsu:

I tend to think along the Hindu/Vedic belief in that different life-forms exist everywhere-in fire, on other planets, even on this planet in different planes of reality-our 5 senses are just not equipped to 'see' them.

You know how when we look vast distances into the universe with our most powerful telescopes (Hubble i think)
We could be looking at a star or even a whole galaxy that might not exist anymore as we are essentially looking back in time.

Because the light is only reaching us thousands or millions of years after it's was destroyed...

So maybe we could be examining potential alien solar systems that were already wiped out but a supernova in the past.

I'd imagine scientists would examine the size & colour of the central star, thus determining it's age. They could then make a prediction about the of the star at the present time, and whether or not the solar system would have collapsed.

Remember hawkings saying that there would be more chance of finding either less developed life or evidence of advanced life in the form of ruins, that finding advanced life still alive in our narrow period, though not impossible, is looking increasingly improbable. Our radio telescopes can listen up to 1000 light years and would have picked up some form of comunication he hypothesised.

I just mean in the sense that they would probably be a humanoid sort of being. Soemthing with two arms and two legs. ears on the front of their head ears on the side. opposing thumbs. that sort of thing. thou if they are a lot more advanced than us then i guess they may have also lost the need to have any of that sort of stuff.

If they randomly evolved over millions of years in completely different circumstances to us the chance they are similar to us is astronomically small, by far the most likely thing is they would look like something we have never seen before.

The first example that comes to mind is the face carving in Egypt(I can't remember or name) - similar to the sphinx.
Check out 'Revelations of the Pyramids', and I think it's about halfway through. Hodge2KOFranklin can probably help me out.

This stone carving is perfectly symmetrical, and is a work of mathematics, carved and polished to a perfection that only machines could today produce.

The statutes of Ramses the 2nd, Luxor is what you mean mate.

Could not have been created without computer guided laser technology.

And this is indisputable.

Some of my mates that are non believers say to me "If Aliens exist, then why haven't we discovered them yet"?? My response: "We haven't even discovered everything on Earth yet and you expect us to quickly discover things in the never ending universe". LOL! :p

I've visited the pyramids a number of times. (I lived in Cairo for a bit.)

Anyway, my point is that nothing can prepare you for seeing Cheops' Pyramid in the flesh.

It is huge. Massive. And sitting there in the desert.

I was always struck by the thought, even though I know Egypt was run by 'living god' with an extensive and organised religious/military society at his beck and call, that no one could build this structure.

It's huge. The rocks, manpowr, engineering and everything else required is simply over-whelming. Then to build it with the precision the way they did.

There are heaps of theories, and conventional Egyptology doesn;t really work for me, so I'm at a loss, because my own gut- reaction to experiencing them is 'how the frack'

I'd like to see them one day but I've seen many shows on them from watching the discovery channel and nat geo channel.

My point on it is never underestimate the power of mankind, look at everything we've created, it's all mind blowing when you think about it. I believe that the Egyptians did build them, would have taken years and years but I genuinely believe that.

Many theories have been thrown around that they had help from 'visitors', but I'm not sure, wouldn't they have left some evidence behind??

I haven't seen the Pyramids, but I felt a similar thing while walking through the temples of Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom in Cambodia for the sheer magnitude of the place, and they are but a speck in comparison.

Found these. Some paintings that date back a very long long time

Two cave paintings from Tanzania. Both are estimated to be up to 29,000 years old. The one on the left is located in Itolo and depicts several disc shaped objects. The other painting is from Kolo shows four entities surrounding a women. Notice also the entity looking down from inside some sort of box or object.

This is a tapestry called Summer's Triumph It was created in Bruges in 1538 and presently resides at the Bayerisches National Museum. You can clearly see several disc shaped objects in the top of the tapestry.

A disk shaped object is shining beams of light down on John the Baptist and Jesus - Fitzwilliam Musuem, Cambridge, England - Painted in 1710 by Flemish artist Aert De Gelder. It depicts a classic, hovering, silvery, saucer shaped UFO shining beams of light down on John the Baptist and Jesus. What could have inspired the artist to combine these two subjects?

A fourteenth century fresco of the Madonna and Child depict on the top right side the image of a UFO hovering in the distance. A blow up of this fresco reveals tremendous details about this UFO including port holes. It seems to indicate a religious involvement between UFO's and the appearance of the Christ Child.

This painting is called "The Madonna with Saint Giovannino". It was painted in the 15th century by Domenico Ghirlandaio (1449-1494) and hangs as part of the Loeser collection in the Palazzo Vecchio. Above Mary's right shoulder is a disk shaped object. Below is a blow up of this section and a man and his dog can clearly be seen looking up at the object.

The painting above was done by Carlo Crivelli (1430-1495) and is called "The Annunciation with Saint Emidius" (1486) and hangs in the National Gallery, London. A disk shaped object is shining a pencil beam of light down into Mary's crown chakra. A blow up of the object is next to the painting.

2 dear were walking in a paddock and one said ,
last night a strange craft came out of the sky with a very powerful light and all of a sudden i felt dizzy and was swept up into the craft through mid air, strange looking beings did some tests on me but it didnt hurt,i think they took eggs out of my ovum and then they gently lowered me back to earth ,on they way down i could see clearly the whole forest and beyond.
the dears friend would say "your a loony"
but this happens to animals in the woods constantly when vets working for parks shoot and drug animals so they can be tested .
when a human tells the same story ,we all laugh and giggle

Thought this would be a suitable place to post this video which I came across not too long ago..

Quite amazing to think about really.

Neil is fantastic.

bkozican those anicent portrayals of UFO's in art are very interesting.
Only things that were supposed to be in the sky in those days was birds.
So i wonder what these ancient people were in fact seeing...

Depends, really.

Many of those paintings aren't a literal depiction of something; a window on the world as such.

Plenty of symbolism and the like imbued in everything.

I think when people look at an apparent UFO in a painting they take it that the artist must have seen it/told about it/known about it, because they're looking at it through a literal filter hence the artist is depicting something from nature. Something that really happened.

But there is a real presence of the depictions of angles and other symbloic representations of god, his helpers or his presence in art leading up to and during the Quattrocento.
