I hope you’re a prefect in both regards.

He / she doesn't have to be perfect, but I hope they take responsibility for the actions of their children.

That's all most people ask. If you see your kid being a dickhead, PARENT them.

When I listened to the mum talk about her 16 y / o child who died when their car wrapped around a tree in Rowville, I had little empathy. Not only was their child involved in home invasions and subsequent car theft, but they were also out at 3am. FFS.....try parenting.

Thing is Allir is one of the nicest guys around and doesn't deserve any sort of insult over the fence or things thrown at him. The way he responded tells alot about his character. Pretty chilled. Any player with a hot temper and that could have escalated quickly.

2 years seems a bit excessive, however, if Aliir, who is minding his own business & doing his job got closer to him, threatened him or worst case scenario, gave him a belt, he'd probably cop a massive fine & threat of jail time.

Maybe a suspension for the rest of the year would be more sufficient - just for the fact he isn't holding a mobile phone streaming on thicktok. Fans in all sports, no matter their age, need to cop on in this regard.

2 Years? There are 16 year olds entering peoles homes at night with machetes and stealing cars that don't even get anything like this sort of sanction. Ban him for 6 weeks and then two years if it ever happens again.

He's been banned by Venues NSW from attending the SCG for two years, not thrown in jail...

Nothing stopping him from turning up at Adelaide Oval for the re-match in Round 15 to throw more stuff at Aliir if he really feels like it.

Surely common sense prevails.
This whole thing is way over the top.
A young fan gets frustrated and chucks his hand clapper and accidentally hits the player running back. Terrible yes but this lynch mob mentality and 2 year ban is ridiculous
Meanwhile youth crime and legal corruption is out of control and nothing is done. But sure let's go all in on some 14 yo pathetic and disgraceful

Why are people comparing youth crime to that of a kid at the footy? They’re two completely different things.

In NSW at venues there is zero tolerance taken and places like the SCG have their own specific legislation as well. If you do wrong at an event you will cop a fine and a ban straight up.

Youth crime is a whole different kettle of fish and across the country we are all having issues with it and it only seems to be getting worse.

In this instance I hope the kid is taught a decent lesson. Come to the footy and yell something at an opposition player like we all have but don’t overstep the mark and throw objects at players or officials.

Enjoy watching Swans home games from home the next few years kid.

Anyone who thinks he accidentally hit Aliir is deluded. Stood up when he ran up over the boundary, threw it with intent toward him, no shock or surprise at hitting him and kept watching him as he ran to the fence. By all accounts no apology when face to face.

It's less a ridiculous ban and more a good message to people who are thinking of throwing things at players that run in. Not sure what the mentality is of people defending this is. 2 seasons of not going to a game of footy is nothing over the top, plus it'll free up a seat for someone that doesn't throw shit at players.

Millions of people including a whole heap of 16yo's manage to hold back from doing that, what makes the one person that thought they'd try it escape without a meaningful penalty.

Also, the youth crime (and legal corruption? 😆) angle people are going with is straw clutching nonsense that has nothing to do with this.

100% his action of throwing the clapper at the player was on purpose. Stood up, cocked his arm and threw it deliberately at the player
Two years is fine. Zero tolerance at AFL venues for that sort of action.

Ofcoarse the irony of all this is that you hear all kinds of vial verbal abuse from fans directed at players and umpires at games every week. Nothing is said or done about that because it is just accepted as part of footy culture.

Verbal abuse can't really escalate in a dangerous way though. If throwing paper becomes culturally not a big deal can easily escalate to throwing other stuff imo, so makes sense to come down hard on anything going over the fence.

Pretty sure there are physical fights that break out amongst the crowd, They would have started by a verbal confrontation.

all the usual suspects here attempting to compare a ‘madness’ two year ban from certain venues to youth crime or excuse it as a clumsy accidental action

Zero tolerance unless in Melbourne:

There is really clear vision of who the Bombers fans throwing objects are on social media and presumably the AFL would have had access to camera vision of its own - but yeah nah, Bombers fans rightly let off because they a tad fragile given their lack of success since the days when this was the most in demand mobile:

100%, massive overreaction.

Am i correct in saying it was the SCG that's banned him for 12 months and the AFL are still investigating?

Enter the SCG and play by their rules.

Again, what this has to do with the judicial system and youth crime i have no idea. The outrage the 2 year ban is getting is farcical..."but...but...people steal caaaars!!! 😭"

Yep. That they do.

This year a 16yo in NSW was sentenced to two years in custody with the possibility of parole after 14 months after he posted a video of himself inside a speeding stolen car.

I can just picture him saying "phew, at least I didn't get banned from the SCG for 2 years."

This is an excellent point. I imagine the AFL are drafting a “please explain” to themselves as we speak.
