I know there has been a few threads on this guy, but I'm curious to whether or not you think he will be picked up? He was a very good junior who kind of fell of the ball in the drafting year and missed out. He has since played some very good football for Coburg and Victoria.

He is still pretty young (21 I think) and is a ready made footballer with great size, standing at 189cm and 85kg. Despite his height he is still a very good in and under extractor and can also play outside. He has good leadership and is hard at the footy.

The biggest concern with him would be his average pace and his kicking which can sometimes be wayward, as seen toward the end of the VFL season. However with proper conditioning his fitness would grow and he could potentially overcome these problems and be an AFL footballer.

In this phantom draft it has him going at pick #47. I'm kind of hoping he will last to the rookie draft so Richmond can take him, but thats probably unlikely, considering it's a shallowish draft

I agree with some points that you raise but i will point out that his work ethic towards reaching his goal of AFL football will ensure that he will find a home in the AFL.

In regards to his pace he has worked with throughout the season with a running coach and you can see this in his improved play.

Your thoughts??

Saw heaps of VFL games this year and he is one that stood out to me as "AFL like" compared to others. Solid body and attacks the ball at speed and generally uses it farly well. Looks like could turn into one of those VFL/SANFL guns, captains and all but be a solid backup at AFL. Maybe worth a shot late.

The way I see, it makes alot of 1-4 year AFL players in the VFL look very ordinary when he plays as he can find his own footy with such ease. If he got the right AFL conditioning and fitness I think he could make atlot of 4+ year AFL players look ordinary....

In Richmond case, him and Danny Meyer are bassically the same age, yet Meyer struggles even at VFL while Neville standsout. I would prefer to have Neville in the side and take him with a late pick (pick 67) and delist Meyer, however I don't think this will happen:thumbsdown:

the thing clubs have to weigh up though is this:

clubs could draft neville and be pretty confident that he will be a solid contributor. but it is unlikely that he would become a top player

or they can take a punt on an 18 year old who may turn out to be a dud, but there is a possibility that he could develop into the good.

so i think that recruiters look at potential more than actual ability

perhaps he and sampi are battling it out for a spot. although both may be better than what's availabe for the dees with their last national draft pick

How many spots do the dees have free?

They may take Neville with their last ND pick and Sampi with their PSD...

The way I see it is you have 1 freak player in Sampi who has all the talent in the world but has lost the passion or something and just became lazy. And then you have Neville who was not picked up but since playing VFL has simple carved it up. Neville is also younger then Sampi
