If you don’t speak German or are not familiar with the word, backpfeifengesicht translates to a face "in need of a punch”. This is different to someone who has done something that deserves to be punished by a punch in the face. This is simply the instinctive (and probably completely unreasonable) urge to hit someone.

Now, I absolutely do not condone violence and this thread is intended as an entirely humorous exploration of our Tiger-eyed reactions to opposition players. Please treat it as such. To be honest, it can be an interesting exercise in self-reflection when you take a moment to ask why you might want to hit someone based on nothing.

I tried to be as unbiased as possible, although I left RFC players out completely. I tried to ignore previous indiscretions (e.g. Tom Stewart), history (e.g. Adam Taloar) and pain inflicted on the playing field (e.g. Mason Cox), but that was hard, and looking through the hundreds of mugshots I actually felt more sorry than surly for many of the truly unfortunate photos. We’ve all been young and had regrettable hairstyles and facial expressions. I’m sure they’re all (probably) perfectly decent humans.

Please have a look and let me know who you would drop into this smorgasbord of smugness, this bumper block of backpfeifengesicht, club by club.

I know not the word you refer to. However, a backenstreich is a box around the ear or slap to the face.

Every time I see this guy I want to belt him with a baseball bat. I have no good reason. I didn't even know what his name was until I read this thread and thought, yeah that Carlton player and looked him up.
