Couldn't take it seriously when the votes were 3-0 Franklin over Scarlett when Scarlett beat Buddy every time he was matched up on him.

No good judge of Football would ever take Scarlett over Buddy. It’s harder to kick a goal than stop one.

    • Mark Ricciuto (2004,2005) Scott Pendlebury (2010–14) – Pendlebury 2–1
Argument on whether I think Roo is better or not aside, he was AA in 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005. and captain in 2004 and 2005

Also selwood shouldnt be captain if he is on the bench

00-09 has 5 key forwards, two time AA Brown shouldn't be in the time. I'd take Gehrig or Fevola over him anyway. Would drop him and put 8 time AA Ricciuto on the flank, leaving a spot on the bench.

For 10-19, I'd give the captaincy to Rance. If Mitchell was a premiership captain after 2010 then I'd give it to him. Selwoods finals record as captain is deplorable.

Surely Goddard gets a spot over Birchall at HB, not even close there.

Josh P Kennedy over Dal Santo. Dal was better pre 2010, deserves a bench spot in the 00-09 team.

All the other captains are on the bench too. Seriously though the bench is not what it used to be. Selwood would be on the field in 30 seconds

Buddy was hardly dominant in the 08GF.

    True
But he was hampered by injury, and his job was mostly to take Scarlett out. That worked.

Did anyone else look at the 2010-18 defence and go...really? 2000-09 would have a field day against them.

You're just being spiteful, aren't you? Selwood is the No.1 captain in the comp, and you'd rather give it to a guy who has never captained? Selwood's finals record as captain is not deplorable. Just because he isn't a premiership captain? Neither was Nick Riewoldt, and who would argue he was not an inspirational captain?

Since he's been captain Geelong are 2w 8l in finals, should be 1w 9l thanks to Isaac Smith missing a goal. His past two AA selections were also extremely dodgy, the AA threads went into meltdown both times his name was called out.

Just so we're clear I'm guessing the answer is Scarlett wasn't on Buddy in the following games:

    Round 17 2008
    Round 1 2009
    Round 17 2009
    Round 15 2010
    Round 12 2011
    QF 2011

But he was in all the other games they played?

From memory he wasn't on Buddy as much as they gave him credit for stopping him, Scarlett didn't regularly played one out against Franklin and Geelong obviously had a very good team defence that our midfield and half backline couldn't get past for a while. Hudghton, Gibson and Lake (the joke was we were out to get all the Buddy stoppers) were better 1 on 1 against Franklin. I mean I won't deny that Taylor and Lonergan are/were a very good matchup against Roughead, but I wasn't worried about Franklin matchups.

Yeah I know but I'm just pointing out that when Buddy got hold of Geelong it'll be because Scarlett wasn't on him but when Geelong kept him quiet it'll be because Scarlett was.

Don't take any of it too seriously, it's just some random journalism student who was 8 years old in 2000 and his mates. He wouldn't even remember the majority of the careers of half the players.

Buddy averages a bit under 2.5 goals a game against Geelong. But during the Scarlett years he averages 3 goals a game.

I assume Scarlett was missing all those times Buddy kicked 4s and 5s.

It also says that Dal Santo had more AA's in 00-09 (2) than in the later team (1). Doesnt make any sense

    Round 12 2011 - No (Lonergan)
