no idea what metric they looked at that made stengle more worthy of the team than cameron considering cameron has him covered in basically everything that matters this year

You're forgetting the most important metric, Team: Geelong.

Jokes aside, Charlie's quiet-ish end to the season didn't help his cause whereas Stengle got to beat up on some easier teams.

Yeah I'm annoyed about Charlie missing. It was close, but Charlie had the edge statistically. You could see it coming for Stengle though, the redemption story, playing for the most 'AA worthy' team in history and then Charlie having a quiet finish to the season.

The worst decision though was not selecting Sicily. That is just mind boggling. There is no doubt in my mind he is the best defender in the competition by some margin.

Not sure about your stats there!
Got it from a foxsports article >

B: Tom Stewart (Geelong Cats, 1st time), Steven May (Melbourne, 2nd time), Brayden Maynard (Collingwood, 4th time).

Looking at just that row I looked it up (Wikipedia:think:) and it said Tom Stewart is a 4 x AA, maybe they got Maynard and Stewart mixed up.

Haha foxsports - best place to get your sporting fix but their editing is appalling. There are honestly errors in every single article they put out.

Stewart has been a 4 time AA - he is a great defender and I'd love him in our team, but feel it's harder for him to be out of the side, than in it. Similar to the Aussie test team of the late 90s-early 00s.

I think Taylor and May deserved their FB/CHB slots, especially Taylor who's had a very good season.

Sicily should've been in the team over Stewart though IMO.

dlanod who's photo did they put up when they called out Connor Rozee's name, because it was a player in Giant's singlet.
Presumptuous of you to think I watch coverage of these things. ;)

If you've got a screenshot/capture of it I can help but otherwise it could be a horse for all I know.
James Sicily should be pretty annoyed with Stewart being named.
It's a funny year where Sicily has grounds to be upset because someone else got rubbed out for a fifth of the season.

Maynard is certainly an AA favourite son, very good footballer but I don't think he is 4x All Australian by the age of 25 good, that is all time great potential building.

Poor man's Starcevich.

Stewart over Sicily is a shockingly bad call. Stewart missed so many games while Sicily dominated the whole year.

Charlie is also a bit hard done by as well. More goals, goal assists, marks and tackles inside 50 are all important stats for small forwards that he led in. Gets a bit screwed by the "story" and our own end of the year.

McCluggage would be nice but I think he gets screwed by our low possession game style. He either needs more of the ball or to kick more goals.

Stewart over Sicily isn't the problem, Maynard over anyone is. Incredibly overrated.

Genuine question:
Does anyone know the criteria for All-Australian selection? I've tried searching for details - but come up empty so far.

You're selected by a panel
And that's about as much as I have been able to come up with so far.
But surely, there must be a set of guidelines for that panel to follow when determining their nominations and final selections? Even the AFL Media states that selection is "as per the criteria established in 2007" - but then fails to explicitly explain what that criteria covers.
As best as I can tell, it is whoever the nominated judges wants to put in.

There is basically no AFL media representative that watches every game of football each round. I heard BT admit (unashamedly) on radio he only watched the Suns play once this year and basically called Miller a dogshit player.

I imagine the all Australian team has a similar viewpoint.
