I just found out the All-Australian team, and apart from the back 6 it is very good with a few exceptioins. ie, just a bloke who happens to notch nearly 30 quality possesions a match, i think his name is Peter Bell, i dont know, who cares, hes not really that good a football player is he.
The teams was:
B - Hardwick, Fletcher, A Kellaway
HB - McKay, Gaspar, Goodwin
C - Camporeale, Ratten, West
HF - McLeod, Carey (c), Hird
F - Farmer, Lloyd, O'Louhglin
Rucks - King, Kouta, Buckley (vc)
Int - Whitnall, Harvey, Ricciuto, B Johnson

What is the deal with the backline, how could they miss out on Woewodin and Mark Johnson. Andrew McKay, they're kidding aren't they!!! Hes been good, but not that good. Same with Simon Goodwin. The only player who i agree with in the back 6 in Fletcher.
But the biggest ommision of all, didn't come from the back 6, it came from the centre. Have the selectors of this team had their heads stuck up their a** or something. How can they not pick Peter Bell. He has been sensational, best on-baller this season apart from Buckley. Bell will be right up there when it comes to the Brownlow Medal, and his ommision from this side has made me totally dissolusioned with the selectors of this side. This is the worst ommision since Kelly won the Brownlow in 1995, but nothing will ever top that one.
And I reckon Kouta would've been better picked at CHB.

No coasters?

I've got no problem with Hardwick getting a game there. Gasper is pretty good too. Johnno was probably a bit unlucky.

What about Scott Lucas off a bench (for his 53 goals from 14 or 15 games?)

No coasters? exactly dutch!!!

Kemp was brilliant all year i cant believe they didnt put him in. And Jako was almost back to 93/4 form and was a rock in defence all year long. Cousins prolly missed a spot cos of the five weeks he was out which is a shame.

Why who did you think deserved a spot dutch?

The backline was ok I thought, Goodwin the only doubtful one. Possibly Yze or Woewodin there? McKay had to make it, he had an awesome year. Him and Fletcher were the two certainties in the backline I would have thought.
M.Johnson possibly in a back pocket, taking into consideration Harwick is a flanker and not really a back pocket.
I woulda chucked in Holland instead of Whitnall. Also, has Buckley ever played Rover in his life?

What they did wrong...
One Rover (and he starts on the bench).
One Ruckman (and he is not that good).
Three Adelaide Players (and they can't make the eight).

At least they got the Captain right.

I have made a few changes.

B - Hardwick, Fletcher, Pickett
HB - McKay, Carey (c), Buckley
C - Camporeale, Ratten, West
HF - L Power, Kouta, Hird (vc)
F - Farmer, Lloyd, O'Louhglin
Rucks - White, B Johnson, Harvey
Int - McCartney, Burton, McLoud, Wirrapundi (spelling?)

why...
Pickett - Beats Farmer and Burns.
Carey CHB - why not?
L Power - very good.
Kouta CHF - if it doesn't work, Carey.
Harvey - best rover playing.
McCartney - very reliable.
Burton - good palmer of the ball, need 2 Ruckmen.
Wirrapundi - very very good.

Nothing wrong with the 3 adelaide players in the team.

Goodwin has been in outstanding form this year. Certainly as good as ricciuto & mcleod.

The reason we didn't make the 8 is because of the other 19 in the side every week not these 3 guys.

Should Buckley be out of the side because collingwood arn't in the 8?

Like I read this morning try fitting 40 players who deserve selection into 22. they don't fit.

I think its a good side.

What about Michael Voss. He has been outstanding this year.
Also Barnes is much better than King.

i have the belief that the all australian side should be picked on the best 22 players for the season.
then the australian side to play ireland should be picked seperate based on the best players to play that series, regardless of their form during the season. what does everyone else think.

also m.johnson and woewodin for mckay and goodwin
carey hasnt had that good of a season and i would have whitnall at chf
agree with bell

WCE2000
I agree Mark Johnson was unlucky to miss out, but Hardwick deserved a spot in the team.
He is one of the most underated players in the Bombers line up.
Congrats Hardwick for finally bering recognised.

So who would you have as Captain, not Buckley. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Figjam.

Seriously, Carey has carried the Kangaroos this year, last year the Kangaroos had 4 All-Australians this year only 2 and they still finished in the top four.

Aaaaaaggghhh, an All-Australian side without a Lockett, Winmar, Burke or Harvey.

Just doesn't have the same ring to it!

Not that I thought any of our players deserved a position in the side this year.

The only noticeable absentee in my opinion was Woewodin who had a great year.

But I am not much use in this post, I am not objective enough.

Okay my shot at Kellaway. (I would guess a few would be waiting for it).

Can mark and spoil well. Cant run very quick or carry the ball across lines. Very average skills, handballs okay, kicks like Jason Daniels.

HOW THE HELL DID HE GET NAMED!!!

Come on, if they are fair dinkum then Hay should have got the nod. Every bit as good a mark, quicker better skilled. Jumps like a gazzelle. If the selectors were going for a 3rd tall defender it should have been him. I wont even mention Chick (well I guess I just did) but both he and Hay are better than Kellaway ever will be. So are Johnson,Wellman,Dunkley,Jakovich,Schauble,
Croft,Hart,Blakey..............

The other selections, probably okay just named out of postition. West as rover, Bucks to a wing and id think it looks more traditional. Hollands unlucky, what with Duckman playing half the year the CHB. Still I have no problem with his selection or captaincy. Gaspar I even agree with. Has been excellent (though he is another tiggy that cant kick).

Aside from that its probably a fair side on form. Others players named like Kemp,M.Johnson etc are all stiff to miss as well.

I may be a little byist but Kellaway is a god damn good player. He can even run up forward and kick a goal or two. Leave him alone Grendel.

On another note, I though Kemp and maybe Hasleby should have been selected in the side. I think the selectors are definately victorians.....

What about John Barnes? He's been fantastic this year. He was a bit stiff to miss out, as were Mark Johnson, Joe Misiti and Shane Woewodin.

There are just so many good players out there! They really couldn't leave Hardwick out, he is fantastic he is in absolutly everything and has the no holds barred never say die attitude which not only tipifies all that is Australian and all that is a good footballer...

rooboy carey shouldnt be named just because he is a captain, im sure buckley or hird could fill the role, whitnall and holland have had a far better season than carey.
carey should be in the team to play the irish as he is the best in the competition.
but he shouldnt be in the all australian side as there have been better chf in 2000

Grendel, I think you may be getting his kicking skills mixed up with his brother. Duncan kicks like Jason Daniels. Have another look next year he wears number 39.

I agree with Susan, Michael Voss was very very STIFF to miss out.

Grendel, thanks for mentioning Jason Daniels.

He was (and still is) a great clubman. While his disposal was downright embarrassing most of the time, his ability to shut down key opponents was magnificent. He could very well have been a premiership player too, had he been left on a player with the initials DJ during a specific game in 1997. A guy who he had successfully beaten on other occassions. Despite playing briefly with the swans, Jack started and ended his career with the saints and is currently the VFL sides runner.

As for Kellaway, he picked up a lazy 30 odd possesions, 12 marks and a couple of goals in a losing side on Sunday. Not bad for a capable but usually dour defender!

I heard on the news earlier that its the first time since the All Australian team began that a WCE wasnt in it. And there should be one, Kemp or Jako. Even Cousins was stiff to miss out if he hadnt missed five games to injury he would have been in the top 5 ball getters in the country.

But then to further piss me off an extra 10 players were added to the all australian team to play the irish and still no kemp cousins or jako!!!!!!

Whats wrong with these Victorian wanking selectors.

On a serious note though wouldnt it be better to have players from every side to play the irish. Teams that didnt get a player into the all oz team were Freo WCE PA HAW and BRIS. This way everyone would be interested in watching it im an eagles fan as you know, and now it wont be as much fun watching the games cos i wont have an eagle to cheer for.

I think they should take over to Ireland the All Oz team and then the best players from the teams that didnt get a show in the All Oz team for example

Bris - Voss
Haw - Chick or Crawford
WCE - Cousins or Kemp
Freo - Haselby
PA - Wanganeen

And then 5 of the best that didnt make it say Woewodin, Bell, Misiti, Holland and Yze.

This way everyone would be happy, note ive stuck to smaller running players cos this is what we need to beat the Irish.

Thoughts??

Oh does anyone know who these other ten players are.

Here you go Jod, (What can I say, I am bored)

Australia adds specialists to Irish squad

By Australian Associated Press
Tuesday, August 08, 2000

Ten players have been added to the AFL All-Australian team to make up a 32-strong squad for a two-match International Rules series against Ireland in October.

Brisbane's JASON AKERMANIS, JUSTIN LEPPITSCH, MICHAEL VOSS, Bulldog pair NATHAN BROWN, ROHAN SMITH, Richmond's WAYNE CAMPBELL, Hawthorn youngster TRENT CROAD, Melbourne duo SHANE WOEWODIN and ADEM YZE and Carlton fullback STEPHEN SILVAGNI have been added to the squad for the games at Dublin's Croke Park on October 8 and 15.

The team will again be coached by former Hawthorn player DERMOTT BRERETON who'll be assisted by former Melbourne ruckman and Gaelic football champion JIM STYNES.

The squad leaves for Ireland on September 30.

I have to say that I don't agree with your idea to have all clubs represented. The whole point of naming an All-Australian side and having them play against Irish is to recongnise the best players in the league.

And last but not least, St Kilda did not have any players in the All-Australian side either.

One bad year and people are already starting to forget! This is not a good sign.

One of those selectors is Chris Mainwaring BTW.

Its hard to really tell from over here but I get the impression that Gasper , Wellman and Jako have all had good years... so yeah probably a bit stiff there...
But on Kemp, sure he's been great this year but who do you leave out? I mean Misit, Mercuri, Lucas, Jason Johnston, Mark Johnston, Barnes and Solomon all had at least as good years and none of these guys (in a 21-1 team) got the gig either.... In the midfield its pretty hard to argue with Ratten, West and Buckley...

Reckon Kellaway got a jumper cos KB would have bitched if Richmond hadn't got a rep....

Dutch what do you think about my idea that every team should be represented.

Your kidding me that they chose:

Silvagni
Campbell
Ackermanis
Leppitsch
Brown
Smith
Croad

Before Cousins or Kemp its shocking, i agree with Woewodin and Yze but the rest ?????? These games against Ireland are gonna suck.

No Chick either???

Welshy, when they are counting posts, you should get a minus 1 for this. WHAT IN THE HELL ARE YOU SAYING, he is the best but not the best, make up your mind.
