Because Judd stands up in most big games, he wills himself to win every contest even though he usually has two guys holding him, and is absolutely spent after each effort.

Does that make him a great player? Absolutely. Does it make him a great leader? That's subjective and more a question for internal personnel at the club.

Ablett, Judd, Goodes, Glass, Mitchell etc. They all show great leadership, and this whole dick measuring contest is a waste of time. They are all worthy choices and whoever gets the gig thoroughly deserves.

Some of you need to get a grip, or a hobby

Judd will be captain. Ablett vice captain. So when judd is announced as captain of the AA side does this mean from now on being named Captain of the AA side means absolutely nothing.

Judd was voted by the players as MVP
Judd was voted by the players as best captain
Judd has very few experienced players on the field with him. Scotland prior to this year was questioned about his attitude and association with Fevola. Leaving Simpson as the only player with substantial experience and credibility.

Glass has Cox, Embley and Kerr all of whom have had great seasons and been credited with reviving the Eagles. They are all 200 game players with premiership experience.

The measure of best captain is; where would the team be without him. Eagles, clearly have more back up.

Glass has done a great job to return to top form and lead his team but surely the players would have a fair idea.

Just thought I'd point out that Kerr hasn't made the 200 club yet.

And where would the Eagles be without Glass? That question was answered last year mate.

Instead of looking like fools, perhaps the odd Carlton (and occasional empty nest feeling weagle fan) might prefer to add some substance to why they think Judd should be captain. Maybe just one reason might be good.

OR (because its early) here's an easy alternative questionnaire to follow.

1. * Do you genuinely feel that Chris Judd is a better choice for AA captaincy in 2011 than Darren Glass ? *
2. Please state a minimum of one solid reason (vibe and/or gibberish isnt considered a valid answer) why Chris Judd should be named All Australian captain ahead of Darren Glass for 2011.

* Blithering, stomping foot, mentioning swans losing, tantrums or any assorted childish pebble throwing will be taken as a "NO"

Thank You
As u Were
I don't know ..maybe you need to take a poll of the players ..as they are the ones who voted Judd the best captain .....but like i've said ..what would they know compared to you .

I think Bollox makes a few interesting points about Judd's captaincy at Carlton and the hype from the media. People have mythologized about Judd carrying Carlton on his back, yet the great man has been unable to get his team across the line against any of the top four teams in 2011.

Judd certainly stands out and leads from the front, but does he perform the sacrificial acts and make his teammates play better? Debatable. Leadership is an intangible quality. You can't measure it. The best player isn't always the best leader.

Regardless of all that, the All-Australian captaincy has nothing to do with real leadership. If they actually played.a game, the team would hardly require a captain or coach. You normally have 22 players selected who could lead the way.

So despite the protestations from Bollox, the A/A is very much a "vibe" thing. No different really to when they'd name the captains and vice captains of the State of Origin teams. The selectors try to strike a balance between on field achievement and seniority. Not necessarily the best player. Not necessarily the most senior player or best-credentialled club captain. Sort of a hybrid of all the above. It's basically an honourable title rather an actual role. Hard to define the teal purpose of it. Just the general "vibe"....

Chris Judd is an absolute certainty to be named as the skipper

Gary Ablett for VC

Fair enough..thats a decent opionion and makes some sense.
So you're saying he's a certainty because of nothing more than a vibe...and being named AA captain has absolutely nothing to do with whether he has been a good captain, let alone the best captain.

Do Carlton fans agree with this ?

Afterall he hasnt exactly been a big game player this season, nor delivered much (none actually) big game success for his mob. Nor has he bettered his mob much nor taken them much further in the last 2-3 seasons. Ratten was under pressure for exactly the same reasons prior to winning 1 extra game this season, a week ago..

Qualifications v others in 2011.... 5/10.
Vibe.... a consistent 9.5/10 as always.

Perhaps i shouldnt have any faith in AA selectors to name the most worthy AA captain.

Chris Judd is a champion player, but he is not a leader. True leaders bleed for their club, they are the type of players who you simply could not imagine in another teams jumper. They stand tall when others falter, they provide an example to the younger players.. they embody the very club itself.

Chris Judd does not care about the Carlton Football Club, Chris Judd cares about Chris Judd. He is there simply because they offered him the most money.

Players like Hayes, Brown, Watson... they bleed for their club and play with heart. Even someone like Cassisi.. nowhere near the top 50 players in the comp, team is a basketcase.. but he busts his arse and plays his heart out every game for Port Adelaide.

Judd doesn't play with heart, he plays like a machine. Efficient, consistent, devastating.... great player. But machines do not inspire. They do not lead men. You need a heart for that.

Every other player is at their club simply because they drafted him.

Have you ever heard Judd's teammates talk about how inspirational he is? It's standard for a Carlton player to bring it up every time they are interviewed. I've never heard a Sydney player say anything positive or negative about Goodes' leadership abilities.

They arrive as kids, and over time they become leaders, and a part of the fabric of the club itself. Carlton didn't draft Judd as a kid. West Coast did. Then they made him captain*, and how did he repay his club? By abandoning them in their darkest hour for the highest bidder. Great leadership.

*In name only, Cousins was still captain.

Some basic information to chew on for those thinking Judd might have a chance as AA captain, or is any way most worthy this season.

- In the last 3 seasons Judd has taken Carlton from 7th to 8th to 5th.
- In the last 3 seasons Judd has led Carlton to a < 50% record over the most vital closing 6 rounds leading into finals.
- In 2011 Judd has led Carlton to zero wins against top 4 teams.
- In 2011 Judd has only led carlton to wins they should have won or were expected to.
- In 2011 HnA season Judd led Carlton to just 4 wins from 10 starts against top 8 teams, 2 wins v Syd, 1 win v StK (early during their slump), 1 win v Ess.
- In 2011 Judd has well and truly played his best footy against bottom 8 clubs, and form dropped as finals approached, especially poor against other top 8 contenders late season.
- Season 2011 resulted in 2 HnA wins more than 2009 season.

This season Judd was staring down the barrel of captaining his 3rd straight elimination final loss. Not a record any captain would like. Perhaps lucky this year they played the least scarey opponent for 2011 finals.

Brett Ratten was under extreme pressure to hold his spot if Carlton didnt win a final this season...for some reason Judd's captaincy wasnt under pressure though after what seems a very average record on paper....may be simply because of his contract. Cant see any other reason his captaincy wouldnt at least be questioned the same way as Ratten's coaching.

In 2008 when Judd was given AA captaincy in his first yr at Carlton...Carlton finished 11th behind Brisbane. Judd finished =8th in Brownlow. Also available for captaincy (AA) - Riewoldt took aints from 11th to 4th and a prelim, Harley finished on top with Geelong then took them to a GF (was named VC behind Judd). Simon Black (Bris capt) was a shock omission from AA, finished 1 vote off winning Brownlow behind Cooney, so couldnt be named. Why Judd was named AA capt was and still is a mystery.

Like 2008 was for Judd, 2011 is Gary Ablett's first season at Gold Coast who were not expected to win even a single game by many. In 2011 Glass has taken WCE (with a massive return to individual form) from wooden spoon to 4th, including terrific second half of season form leading into finals. Goodes as well has had a consistent A standard season, led strongly going into finals with away wins over top 4 and top 8 clubs as well as (like Glass) had terrific individual form at the right time. Gary Ablett began under a cloud of injury but led strongly with individual performances all season.

In contention this season (likely/possible AA inclusions PLUS being club captain 2011)
- Glass, Goodes, Ablett, Judd, Boyd

After McLeod was given AA captain in 2007 it is not a rule that AA capt must be a club captain...so also in contention from other strong clubs this season (likely/possible AA inclusions but NOT club captain)
- Pendlebury, Mitchell, Dal Santo, Swan, Thompson

I fail to see one single reason why Chris Judd would be selected AA captain for 2011, unless (like in 2008) there is some sort of vibe attached to it.

My pick for MOST WORTHY choices they SHOULD consider (Assuming make the team)
Darren Glass(c) Adam Goodes (vc)

Also neither has been named captain before. To me both would seem more worthy on paper than C Judd in 2011. Honorable mention to G Ablett, who may be a smokey (only due to his club results not individually) and wouldnt be out of place.

The only reason i can find for people thinking Judd is worthy of AA captaincy in 2011 over Glass and/or Goodes is because they think he'll win the Brownlow, plays for their own club, or is a sucker for a vibe. This is about captaincy credentials for 2011..not who you think was a better player in 2011.
Coming from you this deeply disturbs me.
