If he maintains his position in the AFLCA he will get selected as that would be a big factor for the selectors. Also if he polls as expected in the brownlow (4th in the predictor) that will also help him stand out in future seasons.
priddis won the brownlow and finished 5th in the AFLCA and still missed out. In recent years its been extremely hard for our blokes to Make it. Mackenzie 2013, 2014, Priddis 2014, Kennedy 2013,14 and Naitanui 2015. like it or not Stats will play a big part in it.

You aren't wrong but it still doesn't detract from the fact he should be in every team right now.

You're right. Im being a bit harsh on him as well. I've had high hopes for him since 2011. That year he showed glimpses of being a top 5 mid of the comp but for me he has totally underachieved. Since declairng that he will never be elite (after the hawks game) his actually proving me wrong. But it would be nice for him to turn games upside down or break em open on a regular basis (agains the best sides).

Depends how Nicnat plays but possibly, Gawn had a couple of down weeks so Goldy has a decent 2 week gap on him.
1 week gap.

Goldy was well held against the Bulldogs, the same as Gawn. Funnily enough they both scored exactly 49 SC points in that fixture.

Pending how Maximus plays today, he can go back to drawing level with Goldy.

Pendlebury is definitely in my team, he's been great this year but I feel he is a victim of his own high standards.

If some young player had the same season Pendlebury has had so far everyone would be calling him a lock.
Cripps? Having great season and with more impressive numbers and does not make one AA side.

I saw him have some horrendous kicks on the weekend in open space against the Pies. This "bont is the best kick in the AFL" myth that perpetuates big footy also baffles me.
Not sure where you saw all these "open space" kicks the Bont had considering he was being hard tagged by Levi Greenwood all game.

Also when you're being tagged, each kick you have is under more pressure than usual so I wouldn't use that game as a reference of his kicking skills. A better reference for kicking efficiency would be Champion Data who put a really high emphasis on kicking efficiency in their rankings, and also actually measure how much pressure and how hard each individual kick was. According to their ratings Bont so far this year is ranked 7th in the comp and in their AA team:

Now I'm not saying their ratings are the be-all and end-all, but they are sure as hell a better reference point than "I saw him have some horrendous kicks on the weekend....etc"

There's not many mids that average more than a goal a game, and Bont and Robbie Gray both average 1.1 goals a game. Which is more important now than ever with lower rotations.

If you want to get technical, you should also include Fyfe, Zorko, Palmer, Scully, Taylor, etc.
contrary to technicality, common sense should dictate the all australian thread should be limited to legitimate all Australian contenders. none of those are except zorko who is in the team in the post i was replying to...

If you want to throw Gibbs' hat into the ring - which I don't disagree with, by the way - you should probably rely more than on mere goal per game averages.

:drunk:

Are you looking for an argument over nothing? The statement was "this year bryce gibbs is the other mid with more than a goal a game." Not "Gibbs is AA because he has a goal a game" or "Gibbs beats all because of his goal a game", just adding in Gibbs to the list of goal-a-game mids that the original post named

And jesus christ, you don't even disagree with Gibbs :drunk::drunk:

Im going by impact on a game, Ziebell can have 40 possessions and limited impact because of his poor disposal.
He has a huge impact because he is such a presence around stoppages, and very dangerous when he goes forward. He's top 20 in the comp for clearances, contested ball, tackles and inside 50s.

I'm not saying you have to pick him as a first choice AA mid (you could pick him on a forward flank or on the bench) but he's been an animal this year.
