I think it comes down to how you define it. If being the best in a position is a lock, regardless of how close others are behind then fair enough. Personally, while I agree that Betts is the best at the moment, I think both Breust and Rioli are close behind, therefore making Betts not a lock. Given that they don't always pick 2 small forwards, it only takes one of them to displace him. Whereas, Franklin is going nowhere as they pick 2-3 key forwards and he has some margin over the 3rd best KPF, let alone the 4th.
Why would you? They're not like for like players. Betts is a goal kicking forward, Poppy is a defensive pressure forward. It's not always about being the better player, it's about playing specific roles. If you want like for like, Breust is the best comparison and over the last 5 years there's not a lot of difference between those two.

I swear the Dogs are taking the old crowbar to the knee approach against gun ruckman, no one can seem to get a hold of them. Or did they pay LeCras when he sucker punched NN in the second quarter?
I know you're having a laugh but they do go 3rd man up a lot and dish out a few corkies. Bont got Goldy with a ripper when North played them earlier in the year.
I think it's a deliberate ploy, and a good one. Well with in the laws of the game too.
IMO Frawley is in a group with Grundy, Tarrant and Rance for the 2nd KPD spot behind Talia, atm you could arguably pick any of them, has been a good year for KPD and KPF's
Interested to know from Dogs fans who they believe to be more deserving of a spot out of Hunter and Bontempelli. Hunter has been incredibly consistent but I feel like Bont has perhaps had a bigger impact on games.

At this stage I would have to say Hunter slightly ahead. He gets a lot of the footy, although not as skilful by foot as the Bont. And is prone to turn it over. Bontempelli had a really slow start to the year, it's only been the last 6 weeks where he's really shown AA form due to him missing 85% of the pre season.

Neither should be in in my opinion. Bont hasn't been consistent enough and Hunter has burned the ball way, way, way too much to be considered in the team. Squad likely for the latter but there have been much better mids so far this year.

Hunter does burn the ball a bit but uses it well a lot also. Think he is ranked #2 in the AFL for effective disposals and when you are getting 40 possie a week your gonna have a few bad ones and a few cheap ones.
Loving Hunter atm. Keep playing like this for the rest of the year and he should be all AA and come close in the brownlow.

Reminds me of a Tom Rockliff type when he was playing outside(admittedly have not seen a lot of Hunter this year). He stormed home in the Brownlow a couple of years ago.
